Hello! I am new to this forum and thanks in advance for the welcome and any possible assistance. I've been utilizing this site for years and have learned a ton from everyone, appreciated some great animals and even chuckled at some of the squabble - and many thinks for all of that...and now finally I drew a tag worthy of a little "monster" info.
I decided to gamble a bit and even though winterkill was an issue, went for it and ended up with a Gunnison Basin unit 54 3rd season tag. I am excited as ever and hoping to make the most of it.
I live about 6 hours away and will be making a summer trip down there to learn the lay of the land, have maps etc. But just wondering if anyone has any history on this area that they would be willing to share - obviously weather will play a part, but any general areas that the deer get pushed to by early November?
Good access points?
As with anyone else, not looking for someone to point out where the next 180+ is hiding, but just maybe some good starting points to head to from someone that has been in the unit in that timeframe.
The unit has steep stuff and more flats/basins in a nice mix so it is all there. Just a matter of finding the best place to start looking. I have an ATV but will also be hoofing it to get to wherever the best chance is. Any advice would be great!
