Well, my 80 year old dad and I got drawn for X3A in Ca!
Does anyone live in the area or know someone who keeps an eye on the deer?
I would like to get an idea where to start scouting.

Thanks for any help, Mike

call the guys at the sporting good store in alturas Ca.

the sports hut 530) 233-2423 there's been a few good bucks taken above the cal-pines subdivison in times past.

Check possible blm land just north east of aden it buts up to private land but holds some great bucks. Also north of coal butte road holds some good bucks be careful and watch your map lots of goods bucks along private land. The forest is a little scarce on deer when the weather is dry and warm.

me and my son will be all over there hunting and scouting for antelope I'll keep an eye out!

Mike,

I was hunting Antelope in that zone about 7 years ago and I remember seeing some good bucks in the area about 10-15 miles
south of Canby and than due west of 299. I saw deer all over the zone but that area stands out in my mind because I thought if I ever had a tag for that zone I would give that area a good look. If I remember correctly I took a road that went through a big ranch and once through the ranch it was national forest / BLM. Great lookin country with lots of possibilities..

Hope you guy's do well.. Good luck.

Jim

Not as many deer in there as there used to be, but still an occasional big deer...

LAST EDITED ON Jun-28-08 AT 06:34AM (MST)[p]For an 80 year old, this ranch (7000+ acres) would be ideal..it's easy terrain with a few good dirt roads. The 5-Dot ranch is much more expensive and borders to the north.

I shot a decent buck up there on this property: www.cooncampsprings.com I was helping out with the project and got to hunt it...there are some good ones where everyone else has talked about too. I think tresspass fees are probably reasonable for that property.

There's been a couple much better bucks than mine taken and seen.
