What are you using or would recommend?

I love the 145 grain Trophy Bonded Bear Claw. I'm shooting that out of my .280 (same bullet) and getting about 3050 fps. It performs very well for me. I'll be testing it on dall sheep soon as well.

It's a Remmingtom 7mm Mag. And the are reloads. Not that I can afford them with the $$ of brass. I shoot 7mm Remington Mag. w/ 150gr Nosler Partition 7mm caliber 150 grain .284"

LAST EDITED ON Jul-01-08 AT 09:34AM (MST)[p]I shoot a 140 grain Accubond with 66 grains of IMR 4831. My Remington loves this mix. The critical part of accuracy was bullet seating depth, at least for my gun. I can move that bullet in and out 10 thousands of an inch and really change the size of my groups. My best peformance comes from the 66 grains of 4831 using Accubonds backed 10 thousands off from the lands. My gun will do this type group (which is good enough for me) like clock work, every time. Nothing fancy on my rifle, just bedding job and trigger adjustment.

"chas" I shoot almost the same thing. I love the 150 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip went through booth shoulders and out the other side at 250 yards.

out of my remington 7mm i am shooting a 168 berger vld hodgdon retumbo powder with 73 grains set at 3.420 in length.
It shoots extremly well. But this is more of a long range bullet so if your not shooting shots over 500 yards its probably not worth it.

A 160 gr Sierra Gameking pushed by 63gr of IMR4831 is like lightning on mule deer. Pushes about 3050 fps at the muzzle.

LAST EDITED ON Jul-01-08 AT 07:58PM (MST)[p]140 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip /Alliant Reloader 22 at 68 grains...3270 fps and .18 groups at 100 yrs... bullet set at 5 thousands from rifling...for mule deer.

Whitetail I use 120 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip /Alliant Reloader 22 at 71.5 grains...around 3450 fps and .50 at a 100yrds...

Keep bullet depth at 5 thousand and try different charges first...then once you find the right charge you can play with bullet depth..also I have had better luck with non-magnum primers
I put a new barrel on my rifle, the h1000 burnt the rifling right out of the first one. But It wouldn't shoot nothing but gamekings. The new one is just the opposite it loves noslers. I found the 150 to be a good bullet for elk but they just don't expand like the 140s on deer...plus as you can see the r22 pushes her fast enough to expand...
the 120 will dam near cut a doe whitetails head off...wouldn't recomend on a mule deer...we use the 120 load on our crop damage permits.

LAST EDITED ON Jul-02-08 AT 10:21AM (MST)[p]try some 139 hornady sst's or interbonds with a little bit or imr 4350 or rl 22 with the right load it should shoot good and be pretty fast it will kill both deer and elk. Or you could check out Reloadersnest.com they have thousands of loads.

I have used everything from the lost river, accubond, x bullet, and more. I made my decision a few years back to go with the interbond 139 and have had great accuracy and performance. It was the lowest priced bullet I tried and had the best groups. I have since taken a coues and a muley well over 500 yards. Ill need to double check when I get home tonight but I think I am using 74.5 grains of rl22. shooting at 3300 fps.

I too use the both the Hornady interbonds and SST's with RL22 and get great results I do also like Imr 4350 but more so in the 270

If it is factory loads you are seeking try the Remington Premium loads with 150 Swift Scirocco. They have been accurate in every 7mm and 7 ultra I have seen them tried in. I my experience Remington and Hornady ammo have been the most accurate in all my rifles followed by Winchester.

Thank You. That was good info on that site. Gun is shooting good just trying to fine tune everything. I was told 300 yd+ shoots are possible and I have never shoot that far other than when I found out I drew a tag. That's a long way!! In a 5" pattern at 3ooyd.

300 yrds is nothing for that gun buddy!..get your action/ barrel bedded and a good trigger...Jewel trigger is only way to go..I like mine at 8 ounces....then watch you groups shrink

The 7rem mag is pretty easy to load for. Keep powders in the moderatly slow to slow burning catagory and have at it.

I have great luck with RL22 and IMR 4831 with just about every bullet I've tried, minus Barnes X. They sucked with every powded I tried. :)

I shoot the barns triple shock 140 grain boat tail with 70 grains reloader 22. I have cronied my bullet at 3400fps. It is very accurate. I have a 7mm tika. The reason I went with the barns triple shock is that with Nosler Ballistic tip, hornady sst, and the interbond's was with the triple shock I am getting great accuracy and it shoots 6 inches higher at 300 yards then all the others. More shock at impact and better penetration. My uncle shoots more than anyone I know. When I told him about the triple shock, he came up with the same results with his 270sm. With it he was 7 inches higher at 300.
