wyoming G

I didn't mean it like that, I just want to see some pics to get pumped up and see what I have to look forward too! Quit being a downer.

Here's one...

Yep, thats the same one I shot. Amazing these fangled computers. We let all the big ones go for seed and shot little ones like him. We hunted up that one draw, just left of that big stump by that old gravel road. That country is steeeeeep. If I did it over again I'd take a chopper in. If you flatened unit G out it would be bigger than Texas.

Same deer pictured with Mr. Smith who allowed me to tag along on the hunt. I just happened to be at the right place at the right time. What beautiful country.

Here is one I took in 2004. Backpacked way in and all alone. Tons of people on the opener, but not a soul the next week.

Shocked me how big his fronts and G3's were. To bad he had a short G2 or he would have booked.
Make sure if you bone out, you take all you can. I was checked at the station just out of Alpine and he weighed the meat. 110lbs. I passed. He had ticketed a few guys already for only bringing out the backstraps and hinds.

Here is my buck from the next year. I had drawn a moose tag, and it opened on the 16th of Sep. So I had only one day. Hiked in night before slept in a deer bed. Hiked to the top of the ridge saw this guy in full velvet and and split G3's I figured good enough for me. He rolled a long way down the hill. Made for some cool pics in some of the greatest country around.

Have a blast. Scouting is key there. Don't be afraid to get away from the road and to hunt later in the season. Glass alot! I picked out the upper bucks antlers in the brush as he was bedded in a slide. Did the big stalk and actually bumped him out. But at 150 yards trotting he was no match for the .300 RUM.

Good Luck,

Jason "The Big Ol' Muley"

Thanks to everyone, those are all awesome bucks, can't wait to get up there in a couple of weeks and do some scouting. Appreciate it!

Willys - sorry to yank your chain a little. Just a little joshing to welcome you to MM!

You will learn there is a fair amount of sarcasm on here. I couldn't help it - you lead with your chin! LOL

Good luck on your hunt. That is a great area that holds some great bucks.

Here are a couple from 2 years ago, not the biggest, but a fun hunt in some deep snow. Steep, rugged country.

Congrats man, I grew up in Star Valley, last year they killed a ton of 30 plus inch bucks, hopefully for you, this year will be another good one. Good luck.

Here's my buck from Region G in 2007. We scouted a lot, and kept our eyes on this guy. We packed in about 6 miles. It is an incredible experience to be able to hunt the high country. Good luck. It is a fun hunt. Enjoy every bit of it. It is something you will never forget.

tooele,

Didn't take you long to make the reply, wondered how long before someone would say something.
David Long sent this picture to me right after he got this buck, BUT asked me not to post it till it appeared in Magazine almost a year later. The original picture was so large I had to resize it twice to make it a decent size, kept it all of these years, a very nice high altitude buck in Region G.

Not just very nice, but likely a once in a lifetime buck anywhere. He does seem to be the man for region G. I was reading his book and it seems that he grew up for a time in stockton, utah and probably bunny hunted some of the same areas that I did growing up. Would like to meet him someday.

Great pics Bigolmuley. If that isn't Gods country I don't know what is. Being from Ontario Canada, I am not quite up to par on the back country hunting. I am going on my first Wyoming muley-goat hunt in area 89-72 this year. I am reading David Longs book Public Land Muleys The Bottom Line. The more I read the more I want to try this type of hunting. I know you just don't pack a pac and head for the hills.I will give this drop camp a try this year and wait and see what the furture brings.
Thats again for the pics.
