I would like to say hello to everyone. I am a first time user of the site. I have enjoyed reading the posts. I was lucky enough to draw a 2008 muzzleloader tag for the Pausnaugunt. I have a scouting trip planned for the end of July, and was wondering if anyone could point me in a direction. Based upon that it is a migration hunt, I have kind of pinned it down to the southern end of the unit. I am more interested in seeing the country the deer will be located at during the hunt. Due to gas prices, I will only be able to make one scouting trip. I would have liked to go in August, but I am on call for work. I have done some genreal research, but any further information, either general or specific, would be appreciated. Thanks!

I am sure the unit and deer numbers have changes quite a bit since I hunted the Muzzleloader in the 1990s, but we had great success in and around the Johnson Canyon area. Saw some huge bucks! But like I said, that was some time ago.

If you could wait on your trip until the first week of October and then come back and hunt you will get a better feel for the area and understanding of the main arteries the deer use when migrating. Give me a call and I can help you get in the right area.

Just got back from Fresno area,, would like to be working somewhere but you know the government. My advice to Fin Little is Stay WAY LOW on the unit cause I have not seen much if anything good on top. He needs to get his side kick deputy brother and check some fields. I think he will like what he sees. Later

south of hwy 89 out of Kanab east about 13-20 miles is a turn off to two dirt roads.. 1st is access to the north and just pass it theirs one to the right...use both.
I'd wait til week or two before your openier before scouting though or middle of rifle season.. the road kill is somthing you will never forget when their moving south and cross 89!
south of 89 I saw the biggest buck of my life and let him walk because it was a bad shot! you will see tons of deer maybe hundreds!!!
remember any deer you see will not be there once they move!
and they will!!
