What have you guys noticed deer do in the rain? Do they normally stay put until the rain stops?

In MY experience they hole up till it's over.....then they come out of the wood work to shake off and dry out.

Areas I hunt the deer hole up if its to cold or the wind is blowing. If its just raining, business as usual. I hunt in the rain. Means not many other hunters out and about. Most are sitting in camp or at home.

You also got to remember like when it snows and sun comes out and starts dripping that deer and elk want to be up out of the trees. My areas they like to get out from stuff dripping on them.

I love hunting deer in the rain. The deer seem to be more at ease, it is a lot easier to sneak in because the leaves and grass doesn't crunch as much and like others said once it stops or starts to sprinkle the deer come right out into the open

I have had mixed experiences, i have seen it rain and the deer just whent about their business as if nothing ever happend, but most of the time it seems they hole up untill it stops then come out in groves. Maybe it depends on if it is a high mountain thunder storm or a storm that plans on being around for awhile.

Hard rain they are in cover, in a light gentle rain they will feed still but be right on the edge of the trimber line. I love hunting in a light rain or mist.

In MY experience, if it's been hot and dry, the first cooling rain brings them out, big time. BE THERE! After that it helps to really get a downpour. Once their bedding areas get drenched they will seek out more open areas. When it lets up and the sun comes out, deer will be on the move.
