Hey everybody. I'm new to monstermuleys and thought I would post here. I drew in unit 40 in Idaho and I am not very familiar in that unit. I was hoping I could get a few pointers and possibly some areas I should go to find me a monster buck to take home this year. Any information will help. Thanks a ton in advance.

welcome to MM. the best advice i can give you is to first get a good map.second call the bioligist for the area. and third take a scouting trip or go in a few days early.is unit 40 in the Owyhee mtn range?

Yeah it's in the owhyee's. Would you by chance know where to begin to find a biologist for the area? Possibly the fish game? Thanks

I drew for a rifle tag in from November 1st through the 24th. I appreciate your help very much.

I will give them a shout and get some information from them. Thank you for the number

Hey Silentbroadhead, I also drew this unit for rifle this year!!! I have been researching this unit since I drew four to six weeks ago. I have talked to numerous hunters that have hunted both elk and deer in the unit over the past four and five years. I also have talked to the biologist over this area and plan to contact him in a month or so - closer to the hunt - the number stated is correct (208-465-8465) and his name is Jake Powell. He is very easy to talk to and willing to help you out. I will continue to research and scout this unit for the next two months - November.

I also drew Elk unit #100 in Wyoming this year and researching that unit also - that hunt is first - October.

I will PM you with my information on the unit and my contact number. I plan to hunt the unit for the 12th until the end of the hunt - 25th. We can keep in touch and maybe hook up on the hunt and trade information during the hunt. I also have contact with two other hunters that will be hunting this year also.

The biologist and others state you should be hunting bucks in the rut, 25-28 inches wide, heavy horned, good forks, 165-190 class bucks. The rut starts in late October, but the peak is around the 12th to the 19th. The biologist seen a 200 class buck three weeks ago - just something to get the blood going - who knows where he will be in November (rut & migration).

Exciting tag to drew. Best of luck and i will PM you.
