My 12 year old son, Cody, is having quite the season thus far and it's only just started. He shot a early youth season spike muley on the 6th, a youth season antlerless muley on the 10th and a youth season antlerless whitetail on the 11th. The ol' family 300 Savage still is faithful. Cody is now tagged out on deer this year. We will now be focusing on his mountain goat and moose tags.

I got in on the shooting action and missed a big black wolf. Not the first wolf I've missed, probably won't be the last. :( My brother ran into the pack a couple days later and was able to shot 2 wolves out of the 8 that he saw.

With the amount of wolves hunting the area, the deer hunting was pretty tough compared to previous years. I did manage to get on a 4 point whitey but he only presented himself a texas heart shot, and I wasn't willing to take that shot.

Congrats to Cody, looks like a great week!!

When in doubt, floor it.

Diplomacy is the art of saying "nice doggy" until you find a big stick.

Nice job Cody. Way to shoot straight. Congrats and good luck on your Mtn Goat and Moose. Keep posting the pictures.

Great pictures as usual.Wow what a start to the hunting season. The double on wolves is pretty cool also.Is there a limit as to how many you can shoot, ect?

Congrats to the young Hunter and his Father. Its sooo cool when Dad's teach their sons the way of hunting and respecting the game animal. Awesome pictures (some good meat)!!! Too bad you missed the Big wolf, hopefully you can get a crack on some more of those SOB's.

Cornfed,
There is no bag limit on wolves in this area. Season runs for over 10 months. Just a couple years ago they bumped up the limit from a 3 wolf baglimit to no bag limit in a effort to try to save the struggling southern mountain caribou herds. In reality, only an aerial harvest would help, but in these days of political correctness and the current government wanting to stay in power for the 2010 Winter games, an aerial harvest is thought to be political suicide.

Congrats on the success and good luck on the upcoming hunts. Those wolf pictures are really cool. Can non residents hunt wolves there?

Great Work there Steve!

Best hunting & fishing partner you will ever have right there.
Gotta love those black wolves.

Thanks for sharing your son's success!

Big time congrats to you and your boy! He is turning into a great hunter and I really love that savage as well. My dad passed me down his old model 99 too. That bottom pic is great, those wolves are awesome looking. If they keep populating down here hopefully they will have a season to hunt them as well. Thanks for sharing it , and again tell your boy congrats and great job!...Larry

Outstanding Cody!

I started with a Savage 99 as well. Does yours have the bullet counter on the side? Mine did and it was an old trusty rifle! It was a 243. I got it handed down from my dad.

Great job and get a few of those wolves for yourself!;-)
