Bummer

I received a call from the Arizona Game and Fish this morning where they explained that a deer tag had become available and I was next on the list due to my random draw number. They wanted to know if I wanted the tag.

Since I was not drawn during the general draw, I told my wife I was going to pick up an additional cow elk tag in Colorado as soon as they become available, which I did. I have a first hunt either elk and second hunt cow elk tag so I will be gone almost two weeks hunting. The AZ deer season opens three days after I return from CO and being gone so long and using all my vacation for the CO hunt, I could not take the tag. Well, I could have, but I may have had to sleep in the tent trailer longer than I had originally planned.

The only good news in this, is I am sure I made someone else's day because I know the AZGFD just went to the next guy or gal on the list and they now have a tag.

This same thing happend to a co-worker last year except he was able to accept, so I guess it is not as uncommon as you would think.

Its still a bummer. I could have hunted elk and deer again this year.

I'd take an arizona deer over a colorado elk any day. Can i ask what tag it was?

For future reference, you could have returned the Colorado tag for a refund and taken the AZ deer tag. But it sounds like you will have a good hunt anyway, best of luck.

That is really a bummer. Hopefully you let your wife know and she understands what you turned down and you received a few brownie points for future hunts. Sometimes you just have to roll the dice see what happens. Best of luck on your Colorado hunt and future draws!!!!
