It was more like a spot and stalk...... wait for what seemed like forever, more like 45 minutes.....ambush, it all came together like it does in your dreams but never actually does in real life. I was heading home the hunt was over, it was the last morning I was going to meet my brother. We decided to go to one more area where we had seen alot of bucks. got on this deer we named Diego. He has about 6 inch inlines on both sides big g-4 not real wide but just a cool looking buck. I wanted him so bad I could taste it. I knew it never happened last minute like this, at least not for me, especially with a bow. We got on top of him in a bowl. Stalked to within 85 yards above him. He had no idea we were there, didn't see a good path to him he was laying in some thick scrub oak. we backed out to about 100 yards. I kept looking through my binos but it would get me so jacked up I had to stop. He wasn't moving and we didn't have a good way down to him. Jeremy wanted to get aggressive, we decided to have him hike around get under him a couple of hundred yards and let the buck get his wind. I got in a place I thought he would work his way up to. I ranged the two trails I thought he would take one was 40 one was 60, although I had taken my best muley at 56 yards, I would be lying if I told you I wasn't hoping and praying that, if this crazy plan came together, he would take the 40 yard trail. about 30 minutes later I saw his head moving, I knew he smelled Jeremy....which wouldn't be that hard by the way. He got up looked down the bowl looked up what I thought was right at me shaked his tail and started to climb towards me. I was surprised at how fast he was closing the distance. I decided to pull back right now because I knew he would be in my shooting lane in a short time. My heart sunk as he started to take the 60 yard trail. Then something lucky and amazing happened he got off the trail and started to walk directly toward my through the manzanita!!! HE got to within 30...20...15...but there was no shot he was facing right at me, I didn't know how he didn't pick me up standing there at full draw. Manzanita covered most of his brisket and i didn't feel good about the shot. From this angle he looked HUGE and I was getting all kinds of crazy inside. at that very moment he turned broadside but his vitals were all covered by brush he started to get further away 20.....25....30 right then his vitals appeared and I shot. I saw the arrow bury into his rib cage and I found out later stick in his off shoulder, as he tore off I had a clear view of that arrow, I have never seen so much blood right after a shot as I watched him I thought WHAT JUST HAPPENED!!!!! I knew he was dead and did something a little stupid as he ran into the trees I let out a loud yell, I knew he was mine. He ended up crashing right there. It was one of the most exciting hunts I have ever been on. Isn't mule deer hunting the BEST!!!

Great story to go along with a beautiful buck. Congrats on one fine animal. I wish all last minute animals could look like that.

Spot and stalk is the only way to hunt! Great story man and congrats on a sweet buck. I always get so tempted to let them have it in the neck whenm they walk right to you but the only shot is in the ribs....you did it right.
