PS. I have the answer to this one!

I have seen that picture in person in a cafe in Paris Idaho...is that where you took that? I'm positive about that! Heck of a nice buck- The photo looked pretty old so I'm curious if it your familys picture or if you were in the same cafe?

My grampa and his freind took pic from highway at the summit of logan canyon. I will get the original pic and scan it in this is a copy that I scanned a few year ago with our old pos scanner. I will get the original from my granpa and rescann it. I have looked at that pic for years and to this day it still get the old heart pumpin. Maybe one day I will run into one of those elusive giants. In season with my rifle or bow in hand that is. But it is still awsome to see no matter when it is.

34, I also seen this photo in the Paris cafe,
I have always been told it was taken in Paris
canyon back in the good old days. You don't see
them like that anymore in that area.

Just glancing at the pic. I don't think there are very many bucks in that picture i wouldn't put on my wall. As for the biggin i would say 35"

LAST EDITED ON Oct-09-08 AT 05:31PM (MST)[p]I'd almost bet my 401K that is an old picture of "Popeye" on the Wyoming winter range.

Slam, I could make that bet also. My 401K is only worth about $12.....and dropping.:)

Eel

I got a $100 buring a hole in my pocket that says he is 30 inches plus! LOL

Bottom line: Great picture!

Ok Im not going to offer a bet I know your all disappointed. Im just going to say 36" and leave it alone at that...lol

Nope elko, Popeye was never killed by a hunter.
He shed his antlers that last spring and they found his body not too far away from the sheds, died of old age and plain old winter kill.
He is part of the "Wyoming Legends".
Marty, Popeye and Goliath.
The artist Brent Todd has several paintings of these magnificent bucks, check out his website.

Slam, it isn't popeye, I seen this photo
well before popeye showed up, I am thinking
1988 0r 89 in the paris cafe. and if I
remember right the photo was taken in the
late 70s.

HTNBIGBULLS-

Wow, i surrender my 201K then...
But i bet we have now seen Popeye's father!! :)

Yes, Goliath was shot.
Morty was my personal favorite "legend".

This picture is in the "Idahos Greatest Mule Deer". Stud of a buck irregardless. A true resemblance of the "Popeye Buck".
I will guess him being 40' wide.

I gotta disagree whole-heartedly that this is Popeye. They have similar antler configuration, but Popeye was much wider and his tine length was longer than this "Logan Canyon" buck. You can especially tell on the right G2-G3 fork... No extras there either like on Popeye...

Still he's a brute, I'd say 34"

36-37 inside. My wifes grandpa shot one that looks identical to that one. It measures 37 inside and 42 outside with cheaters. They are awesome

I agree that this buck is not popeye, the picture pre dates. Popeye, its just a great ole picture of a great ole buck, the kind that you never see anymore, (unless of coarse you were with me in january in NM a couple of years ago). I hunted with the guy that killed Goliath here in NM a few years ago, he was telling me about the hunt and how it went down-what a great story and an awesome deer!

this photo is also in the back of Idahos Greatest Mule Deer by Ryan Hatfield. the caption says.
"This great photo was taken by Jerry Tuller in Bear Lake County in January, 1984. There were twenty six bucks, but in order to get the wide one in the middle, he could only get twelve of them in the picture."

Dan

So, you have kept us in suspense for a couple of days. What was the width?
