Ok, maybe in our eyes it's just a doe, but as we all know, our first deer was a trophy no matter what!

Congrats to you and your son. It is always nice to see the new generation getting started. Nice looking country, too.

Congrat's young man. You will always remember this, no matter how big they get. Dad, there's nothing like the pride you fill when your son is finaly old enough to buy a tag, get use to passing up shot's too.

lol, I know!
We saw about 20 head of elk also, this was a private land doe tag, anyways he has a bull tag too, 3 legal bulls and one was a monster! However they were about 600 yards out, we tried to sneak them, but they vanished into thin air.

One more weekend, so we'll try the 'rim' below Mcphee lake this weekend. I was much happier seeing him shoot it than me! I care less anymore if I get anything. Though I do love the meat!

This doe he shot from about 130 yards standing, no rest, which impressed and depressed me, because I know he's a better shot than his old man!

That's what it's all about right there! Congrats to both your son and you. There is nothing like spending quality time out hunting with your kids. They will remember it for the rest of their lives.

Congrats to you both. My very first deer was also a doe and I'll tell you what , it didn't matter, I was happier than all get out.She is a great looking deer too , alot great memories right there and some good eatin as well. Thanks for sharing it with us , some great pics and High Five Him and tell him it's from another hunter down in NM....

That is as good as it gets! Bleach the skull out or have a good chunk of the hide tanned for him as a memento.

That is awesome!! He looks so happy. Cool buddy!
I can't wait. My son will be 12 next year. Sure will be fun.

Dug,
Congrats to your son on his "trophy" and the pictures sure are nice. Be there in 8 days myself for Bulls.

Brian,

Hopefully it will be picking up by the time you get here, this season has sounded pretty slow over here in Durango area. We went up Sunday above Purgatory, didn't even see any fresh sign, hardly any hunters. Weird for up there and being the second day.

Nobody was seeing too much. It was hot and dry though, no weather yet.

Great job man. That is a great looking skin head. Now when you see a whopper buck you will be an old pro and ready to whack him.

ON a last note, after he shot her, the guy that farms around the land we were hunting on (this was my aunt's land) came driving up. He was making sure we weren't trespassing, etc. which I don't blame him.

After he found out it was my son's first deer and all else, he was like, well heck, gut it out and through it on this four wheeler! I was like Thank you God! I didn't want to pack that doe for a mile through saphire, which is very sharp!

He was super nice and told us if we saw a bull on his field we could shoot it, I thought, wow! What a privelege for my son, it was such a nice change from a landowner. He was just really into kids out there hunting.

So in short, if you guys EVER run into that, gosh take advantage of it, however make sure you send the landowner a nice gift or something afterwards so they know how much you appreciate their kindness. Last but not least, just don't tear up their land or do anything stupid! lol...But in short, Thanks Roger!
