The last day paid off for me as I was able to harvest a 33" wide Co buck.

Pretty sure I scouted this buck last couple of years and he was bigger in the past or his points were way (7-9 in each) bigger and he was just about as wide.. I feel he is a old buck that is past his prime and going down hill and his teeth were pretty warn down. As usual and as hard as it is for me to say the biggest one that I saw (a easy 32" 4x that will go 210+) got away from me 2x and on the last day when I saw this guy I could not turn him down.

We packed him the 6+ miles out yesterday and I will post pics as soon as I get them from a friends camera. I am still stoked on a great hunt as I was able to hunt every day with my father and am happy with the outcome. Nothing better than to be able to hunt every day of the season and conect on the last day!!

Ok here is the pic..

My legs are shot today! It was quite the long haul out with that buck but it was worth it! I was able to hunt every day of the 3rd rifle season here in colorado. Lots of nice days to sit an glass. I was able to locate this buck and another similar buck but with much larger points. The bigger one gave me the slip and I as able to spot this guy the on the last am.

The hunt started super warm and I was seeing plenty of doe every day but very few bucks. As is got later in the week I began seeing more bucks and the one giant that got the best of me... The last night it got down to 12 or so and it seemed to turn the rut on. I spotted this guy from over half a mile and made a plan to make a stalk to where he was moving as once I left the ridge I would only be able to see 150 yds or so. I got luckey and he was chasing around a doe right where I thought he would be. One shot dropped him in his tracks..

I also passed on at least one smaller buck every day as I have already harvested a cow elk so I waited for and hoped that one of the bucks that I had scouted in previous years would show up and was happy that this big guy returned. Like I said above I am pretty sure that I scouted him last year and all his forks were just about the size of his biggest one on the left.. His forks are way smaller this year but I am still super happy to have gotten a chance at this guy.

The badlands packs work great for me here is a pic packin it out.

you should be very proud of a buck like that, even if you saw larger! Great buck

Thanks for the remarks. I am still excited over this buck, the hunt, and the bucks I was able to spot and hunt. Still fun to think about the giant that got away and look foward to going after him in the future! If I can get a pic of him sometime this winter I will post it up.

We had some of this guy last night for dinner, not bad for a older buck and today we are makin most of the rest into jerkey.

He did have a huge body on him and a ton of fat. I dont know what he weighed but he was a big bodied buck. What I do know is that there is going to be a big pile of jerkey that needs eatin thie winter!
