I hunted down there the full time except one day, and ended the season the last day of the hunt with a 28" buck which was smaller than 6 buck (four of which I passed on - one I missed and one that you dream of that was to fast for me.

Would like to hear from those of you were hunting down there during the ML hunt about what you saw and what you ended up with?

It's nothing to brag about and I would attach a picture, but I can't figure out how to upload. Does a person need to reduce the pixels?

I am trial and error'ing it.

Brine, That buck shows good and nice mass, well done. Sounds like you really had a hunt that is all a guy could ask for. Congrats!!

Brine,

Im with you trying to upload for us non-tech guys is difficult, I tried and couldnt get it to work, looks like you had a great time and that's a nice buck. Let's see some more pics of him.

Brine,
That's likely one of the better bucks taken off that hunt. The poor old Pauns is in need of some serious help. Yes, an occasional monster still gets taken off the unit, but in all reality, she's fubared.
Congrats on a fine muley and a big high five for using a real musket.
And for the record. I live on the unit, or at least spend a great deal of time there. I now have enough points to draw the musket tag myself, combined with my spouse. I'm seriously considering using them on another unit. Or just holding onto them and hope I don't die while waiting for change. Maybe it's time to look at the Henry tags?

After reading you must keep it less than 300KB's just reduce the quality of the picture it was a snap (after reducing and saving) - just drill back to your picture and follow the instructions.

In my original post I really wasn't necessarily after a lot of pictures. They are alway nice, but I really want to hear from a bunch who were hunting the Pauns or with someone who was hunting there. I would like to know what they saw, or were told, along with anything they shot.

I can't believe there isn't several people on this forum who hasn't heard stories or has one about this unit.

All the accounts I've heard is that it was pretty dismal on top end bucks for everbody. Even most of the high profile outfitters sent clients home empty.

I hunted the paunsaugunt this year with my bow up near robinson canyon and pink cliffs area and shot a 180 inch 5x5 but he is only 22 inches wide but has good mass and deep forks. I only saw two bucks that were pushin 30 inches wide. One was a massive 5x7 that i wanted and i saw him the thursday and friday before the opener. I looked for him opening morning and never saw him, I shot my buck opening night and continued to lookfor the5x7 for the next six days never to see him again but i did see another 30 inch 4x4. I have been down to the paunsaugunt in years past but this is the first time i hunted it for myself. I saw 20-25 inch bucks every day but only a few really good bucks. The buck i shot was the third biggest buck i saw down there.

I was down there with Hawkeye on the Muzzy hunt also. We hunted hard for a week and did not see too much at all. Saw bucks, but not that many. Most of what we saw were in the head lights on the way back to camp. I rally think that the Paus needs some serious help. CUT the number of tags, landowner tags, conservation tags and kill the cyotes. I have never heard or seen so many dogs in all my years of hunting. Every morning and night every where we went, dogs, dogs, dogs, and some more dogs.

I will try to get Hawkeye to post some pics. It was a 4 by 4, 26 inches wide. About 160 or so. 2 inch eye guard, with 2 stickers on the base.

Conch,

You're not the flinter I talked to at the motel in Kanab are you? This person said his wife had about 13 or 14 points and was down there looking even though they didn't have tags. Said they should draw next year.

Lynn,

Great picture and a nice buck. My dad said you did see some nice bucks and passed just to spend more time hunting. Not a bad thing when you get a chance to hunt in that country. Just a little curious if your wife has razzed you a little?

My wife has has shot two giant bucks down there --- and me - I have drawn three times - passed up several very nice buck, missed a few and come back with good stories, but only stories.

The last day of the hunt I told her that I was going to end the season on the deer I shot. She said, "Are you sure you want to do that". I said, "Yes, after ten days of hunting, I'm tired".

People who shoot little deer, shoot little deer - what more can I say.

I still have her on a width of 33", just not mass. I passed on one that was over 30" down there, but it was less heavy than the one I shot here several years ago and yes she does razz me. I just remind her that I was running the tri-pod when she shot her buck.

Brine,
I may very well have spoke with you, but it would have been in the field. I was out there most days and conversed with lots of good people. What type of vehicle were you in?

Conch,

The person I talked to was next door at the motel. A wild buckskinner who was from the old school. Thought the late season should be only flintlocks because of the rut and how much harder it is to get a deer with a flinter. He didn't care for my custom left hand gun after he found out it had a 28" twist and I was shooting powerbelts.

You know a split ML hunt wouldn't be bad idea. Half of the hunters in September and half in November.

Anyway I guess you weren't that person.
