Okay guy's,

I got some great feedback on a previous thread. I would like to ask 1 follow up question.

Assuming you could hunt a large majority of private ground on the Pauns, Would you take a Henry's archery tag or a Pauns rifle tag?

And then Why?

I would want to hunt the henry's with my bow even though i have never been to the henry's. I have hunted the paunsaugunt with my bow and seen some incredible bucks and also took a nice buck this year with my bow on the paunsaugunt. If you were deciding what to hunt henrys with a bow or paunsaugunt with a bow it would be a toss up, but i hear the deer move off the top into lower country after the bowhunt on the paunsaugunt and i dont know the low country down there but if a guy did know where they move to it would be tough to decide between henrys bow or paunsugunt rifle because there is some amazing bucks on both units.

Chad,
With your archery skills, and hunting knowledge, I would go for the Henry's archery permit. Seeing the number of nice big bucks I have seen down there this year, and knowing the chance is there to find a smoker, I'd have to say archery all the way! 26+ inch bucks are a dime a dozen down there.

Hey guy's,

Thank you for the info! I wish I had the points to pull either tag! I am actually doing some research for my buddy. He has the points to pull either tag. I have a feeling he will go with the firestick! I am thinking about the Henry's but it will be a while for me!!

What do you guy's think about the management tag? Could I kill a big buck with that tag? Seriously? Are there some big ole mossback 3 points down there? OR, is the hunt just to eliminate some bucks out of the herd?

There are some slug 3X4's down there... I saw a 32" 2X3 last weekend, and another 5 or 6 bucks that were at least 24 wide with only 3 one one side.... If people will hold out for the big ol' bucks with a 3 point side, they should be able to harvest a nice buck, and also serve the purpose intended, to thin out the inferior bucks for breeding...
If they would have had it this week, I could have shot a dozen big bucks that had their main beam snapped off within 6 inches of their skull... They had been doing some serious fighting down there the past week or two...

Chad,
if this is for who I think it is, it might not hurt to mention that he would be equiped to take a 1000 plus yard shot if he opts for the pauns rifle tag. Boy, that is a tough one for me. I'm not an accomplished archer by any stretch but I do archery hunt deer every year and I know all the variables that affect harvesting a big buck with a bow. On the other hand, I have never stepped foot on the Henries...maybe I need to take a trip down there to see all these filthy bucks standing off the side of the road for myself.

Go with the Henry's tag all the way. I spent a week down on the Paus a few years ago on the rifle and saw SOME good bucks, but not a lot. This year I was down on the Muzzy hunt on the Pauns. VERY VERY VERY DISAPOINTED!!!!! Yes it was hot, but we never saw a buck bigger than 27 wide. Nothing with cheaters. A few nice 25 inchers with mass and good forks. BUT NOTHING GREAT. I think that the Pauns is going down hill. Just my opinion. SO please don't rip me a knew one. We killed a 26 inch descent buck, about 160. We were deceived by this buck. But still we were ok with what we got.

GO henry's all the way.

Once again, Thank you all for your help! I think the Henry's is a no brainer! We shall see what he decides!

Oh and Ryan, it is Jason!
