LAST EDITED ON Nov-25-08 AT 09:09PM (MST)[p]Well, tonight I finally closed the deal on a good looking wasatch buck. I hit him at 30 yards with a snyper and he piled up within sight. He's an old buck with loads of character. His teeth are worn down almost to the gums. To say I'm happy is an understatement - I've put a lot of miles and work into this buck. I'm thrilled.

He did have a few battle wounds, including about 4" of somebody's arrow that was still stuck in his shoulder. Didn't seem to be bugging him too bad though as he was pushing does hard when I shot him. He had another wound in his backside; I'm still not sure if it was an arrow or another deer who jabbed him.

Huge thanks to Lanny and Hawkeye for helping me make this happen.

VERY NICE BUCK, CONGRATS. I NEED TO QUIT KILLIN' SO EARLY SO I CAN GET IN ON SOME OF THAT EXTENDED BUSINESS.

Nice buck!
Congratulations, I had you pegged for a little older than you look...looks like you are still pooping yellow.
Nice buck and many more to come I am sure.

Ben-

Congrats on a very nice buck. I am glad that things finally came together for you.

Thanks everyone.

By the way, when I took the deer over to hawk's house to show him, his daughter informed me it had to have a name. With that kicker I figure captain hook fits him well.

Congrats on getting that buck. We gave it our best to try and get him at the start of the season. We called him the snorkle buck but I think captain hook has a better ring to it. He was to smart for us, good on you for getting him.

it is pretty cool that their are a lot of people that intimatly know these wasatch bucks. Most people have probable seen any given buck up their or actually hunted them for a few years.

To me it is always sad to see a buck that you have hunted get taken. But I am always happy for the hunter.

Hey congrats on the buck! When did you get him? because i met you hunting back in late october when i was getting my deer out, and i'm just curios if you got him later that day? But I too have seen that buck before, here are some pictures of him in the velvet that i took back in august.. i don't know how the that other guy posted the same picture i got.. but here they are. It's a sweet buck man, lots of character!

A good friend of mine sent me the pic the other day. You know Parry?

Hey, congrats again on your buck - I just got this one this week. Persistence paid off. I bet we'll run into each other up there next year too. I'd love to know where you took those pics- send me a PM if you can.

I think that was my friends arrow in that buck. Was it shot in the right shoulder, and was the arrow camo wrapped with a wackem broadhead?? Congrats on a great buck.

Yep, looked like a Carbon Express Maxima, camo, with a razor tipped grim reaper. About 3-4". Put a small hole in his shoulder blade, and that's about it. How long ago did he hit him?

Good I am glad someone got it. He hit it last friday night. We tracked blood for a probably 3/4 of a mile down lower on saturday morning and then it just stopped. We heard someone saw a wounded one up high and wondered if that was him. Congrats.

If you send people your pictures, they will get out. Remember that when you decide to send pics. That way you wont poop your pants when you see your pic pop up on MM. :D

Hey Ben,

It's Marlon.... I finally got home and saw this post! Good job on that buck, I am stoked for you but I gotta admit I was in disbelief after chasing him for an hour and then hearing the shot right next to me! I couldn't believe it! I had him at full draw three times with no lane! Anyway awesome job on a great buck... We hunted hard the rest of the week with good bucks found but no go...

Again congrats and I am glad i got to put my hands on his horns up there, he had me all worked up pushing those doe's and grunting! email me pics if you get time!

Congrats on cool archery buck! Nice character & name you gave him. Thanks for the photos.

Heya Marlon - glad you could be there.

But...lol...I had shot that buck almost exactly an hour before you came sneaking up on him, and was making sure he was done before I walked up on him. He was still struggling and I didn't want to bust him out. I could see him from where I was sitting and where I shot him. He did stand up and try to walk a few times, taking his last few breaths. Perhaps you were putting the sneak on him when he was dying, or it could have been a different buck? I then saw you sneaking up and had to say something for fear you'd bust him out or shoot him, but it turns out he was dead then. He had been alive just minutes before, but in the process of death. There was another big buck with him- perhaps you were stalking that one?

Congrats DryFly - Wish I could have been there, but maybe in some weird way I was. I know how special this is for you and its awesome to see the excitement on such a succesful year. Just think - one inch away from the perfect year! I know how dedicated you are to the sport and seeing this picture lets me know we can add story # 501, 502 and 503 for all those long drives to La Barge.

Great job and Congrats!

I just want to say congrats on an awesome buck. I too have hunted the wasatch a lot, and know that it isn't an easy task taking a buck like that up there with archery equipment. I think that a little luck plays into any successful hunt, but knowledge and hard work is what makes that luck happen. I don't know why people can't be happy for someone who shoots a buck like that, instead people try to put you down out of jealousy and not being able to make it happen themselves. Sweet buck man!

LAST EDITED ON Dec-04-08 AT 00:14AM (MST)[p]I hate to see two friends get into a pissing match over something as petty as this. Ben hunts hard and he was rewarded with a very nice buck. I am thrilled for him. In fact, I wish I would have been there myself. He was obviously excited, and rightfully so, and so he posted it for others to see. I do not think that his post was boastful or over the top. I am not exactly sure why Sam got a burr under his saddle. Let's let this die and get ready to chase big bucks again next year. Congrats again Ben.

Wow - Kangaroo, that was about the greatest post I have seen on this site. Congratulations to you for coming up with such a classic comment. Not sure that with those comments you were "just giving someone a hard time", but that you have some serious issues to deal with. I would start with the envy issue first.

Awesome buck, nothing better than walking up on a bloody arrow! Congrats on achieving something that most dont, slaying a wasatch buck!
