This buck was shot out on the face on Wednesday of last week. I videoed this buck all summer up in the high country about 6-8 miles from the location of the kill. We hiked up that morning and I spotted the buck chasing does and couldn't beleive this buck we callled Walter Sr. had made it down to the face. We chased him around for a few hours and eventually he pushed his does right past the my buddy Colton Smith and he drilled him at 20 yards. We were about a 2 hour hike up when we spotted this buck and Colton stayed there to spot for us as we went up after him. I told Colton that sometimes these bucks double back down and go through the meadow where he was set up. Sure enough about two hours later the buck walked by at 20 yards and he made a great double lung shot. (So next time you are being the "spotter" on the Wasatch...remember you might quickly become the hunter--this has happened to us up there several
times.) The buck green scored 176" as a 3 by 4 and has some sweet bumps and points around his base. Paul Penny said he thinks the buck is 6 years old. To bad he didn't have a matching back fork but who cares.
Congrats to Colton on a sweet buck! He has hunted hard on the Wasatch for several years and it finally paid off.

P.S. As for the name Walter Sr. - We had a buck up AF Canyon a few years ago we named Walter because he was a 3 by 4 and Walter Payton was number 34. Also we new if we ever shot him he would go straight on the Wall--ter. When I found this buck in July this year he looked just like that buck except a little bigger so we figured Walter Sr. was a perfect name.

I will try to post pics from the video this summer when I get home later. I am sure all the Wasatch maniacs will already post several pics of him by then.

I hate it when you see a buck you were going to hunt get killed. I was actually saving that buck for next year hoping it would be a 5x5. If he would have had a g4 this year he would have been in trouble. He would always bed where I took a buck a few years ago.

Congrats!!! how wide did it go? He looked close to 30 in velvet.

Nice work! Some damn nice bucks off the front again this year.

Paul does great work..your mount will look awesome.

That is a beautiful buck. I love the deep forks. Several very nice bucks were taken on the Wasatch Front this year, but as anybody knows who has hunted up there, you have to work hard to get them.

I saw this buck chasing does on Wednesday or at least I think it was Wednesday when you killed him and as I was looking at him through the scope... I saw you guy's working up to him... Great buck! Congratulations!

Looks like you were In the bowl? Great buck and was that deer hanging out where we were hunting? Congrats to the hunter.

Calendar Is done for 2009 but I would love these pics you have for 2010! Send me a email with your address and I will get you a calendar out.

Great buck, Great job! He will look good on the wall. Not to bad for coltons first muley with a bow. After four years of hiking his A$@ of he deserves it. Nice work with the pictures it shows allot of respect for the animal when you take time to make good pics.

P.S. hunting with good friends makes for an easier pack out
congrats guys.
