I should have enough points to draw either 61 or 201. What would be some of the pros and cons of one unit over the other? I'm considering these hoping that the winterkill wouldn't be as bad as some of the high country units. Am I kidding myself? Some of the reports I've heard sound dismal, even in the lower elevation units. I don't need to kill the biggest buck on the mountain, but good opportunity on mature bucks (150 class+)would sure be nice. Is it worth doing this year or wait a few more?

Want my opinion????

There is way to much hype on the winter kill in MOST of Western Colorado.Gunnison and Eagle Counties are the exception.I have been out alot lately and there are all sizes of bucks, does and faws everywhere in their winter range.

I think it was just a bad year for hunting and weather period. We have seen it in the past and we will see it again.

But what do I know...This has only been my stomping grounds for all of my 41 years of life.

You guys are confirming what were initially my thoughts. Yet reports coming from hunters this year seem to indicate otherwise, even in low lying areas.

my 2 cents worth I would put in for 61 I spent a ton of time in there last year calling elk and saw some smoker bucks, very little pressure other than road hunters . dont know much about the other unit, but I like 61

Right on! That is what I wanted to hear. Were you up high in the aspens or down in the oak brush?
