Just heard today that the DWR is conducting a doe hunt in S UTAH. I thought we had seen the last of the doe hunts in Utah. Apparently they are killing around 150 head on highway 20 from I-15 to the Pangtown turn off. Has anyone else heard of this or can anyone verify. If it is indeed true, it is total Bull pucky. The only reason that I have heard is to get the buck to doe ratio in check....WAFJ...What do ya know....

from what i heard they gave out the permits because landowners were complaining about to many deer on their property during the winter months. they gave out doe permits for enterprise also to get rid of the deer that get into the alfalfa fields.

You mean that there is more to deer management than just growing big bucks?

Why don't they pay off the ranchers and let the deer herd grow? We actually have areas where there are too many deer? I guess we might as well kill them to get them in balance with the rest of the state! What a joke.

There wasn't too many deer in my opinion just too many Farmers and ranchers complaining. We use to have property south of enterprise and in my opinion the damage deer did to our fields and pastures was nothing especially when compared to the damage elk would do. But the DWR is trying to grow that elk herd despite complaints from the farmers and ranchers, go figure.

Havent you guys heard yet, Muledeer, in most of the west, are vermin . . .

Why would the farmers and ranchers be complaining about the deer this time of year? I might be completly wrong, but I can't imagine deer do much damage to feed, fence, and such. Especially now that crops and pasture are under snow. Elk, I can see, would be a differnt story. Doesn't matter anyway, the dwr changes to this up-coming hunting season will decimate the buck to doe ratio. I'm begining to believe that elk are much more profitable to the dwr than deer. What they are doing is absolutly unfathomable.

I couldn't agree more! I love to hunt Elk but it has always bothered me that the DWR cares way more about elk then they do about the deer. At least that's the way it appears.

Utah is a deer state. Always has been. The dwr is a money making machine, and they will do what makes them money. good luck a-holes....

hey hornhog , you ever hear of haystacks?
With the price of hay over $150 a ton its no wonder farmers & ranchers complain about the deer on their fields.
I dont know if thats the case here but I know first hand it doest take long for a herd of deer to ruin a stack of hay. Probably 30 at the farm now plus 17 bull elk just accross the fence, cant wait till they come over.

I definitely agree that elk and deer can destroy a farm. But is killing all the animals around the best way to fix that problem? Absolutely not! If you are in the farming business then you need to protect it by building a bigger/stronger fence so they can not get in period. I realize this could be costly, but wouldn't you be making up that money in time if your field was protected and you weren't losing money caused by it being eaten? I just think that if you are going to be in that type of business then you need to do your part in protecting it. Depleting deer and elk herds is not the answer!!! I am an absolute hunting fanatic and believe our herds need protecting...not extinction.

The a-holes comment certainly wasn't classy. And I apologize. But thank you so much for pointing it out. And I'm pretty sure that the price of hay has more to do with the price of gasoline this summer much more than deer eating it.
