Dedicated hunter lottery....

Can you buy a preferance point? I will have one from coming out of the program last year, but don't want to reup this year. Can I just buy a point, so I can be in the "Max" pool if I want to draw in the future.

By bumping the service hours from 24 to 40, i think there going to have a lot of people drop it..probly be under the cap again soon.

Could be wrong, but I believe I read somewhere that the point you earn is only good for the next year and then you lose it if you don't put in.

The change to 40 may take me out of the program. Unless I have an extra $600 lying around at the time to buy 30 of the hours.

It's a shame too, I've really enjoyed the program. However, that requirement makes more out of state hunting cost effective.

WOULD SOMEBODY POST THE REAL MEANING OF GREED???

"I'M NOT COMPLAINING,I'M TELLING IT THE WAY IT IS,SOME OF YOU MAY NOT LIKE IT,THATS O.K.,SOMETIMES THE TRUTH HURTS & YOU HAVE TO ACCEPT IT,OR YOU FIND OUT WHAT THE FACTS ARE,STAND UP & VOICE YOUR OWN OPINION,THIS IS STILL AMERICA THE LAST TIME I CHECKED"!!!

REMEMBER!!!

THERE'S ONLY ONE bobcat!!!

Well your odds just got better. I will not be applying this year. The last three years have been great. It is not so much about the 40 hours as it is about spreading out some of my hunting time and opportunity to other hunts such as ducks and birds. Good luck to the rest of you potential DHers.

of COURSE you do........wonder how much revenue they are counting on for that.....let's see, 3000 times 10 bucks.....hmmmmmmmmm

The preference system within the Dedicated Hunter program is called a "loyalty point". A loyalty point can be earned by anyone who completes all of the program requirements by October 1st of their 3rd year. Alternatively, a point can be purchased. NOTE: There is a ONE POINT MAXIMUM - no one can ever have more than one point in any given time. Also, loyalty points do expire - they are only good through the following enrollment period after being issued. Example: If someone gets a point in 2008 and they do not apply in 2009, the point will go away.

LAST EDITED ON Dec-30-08 AT 11:59PM (MST)[p]There gonna be lucky to have 9000 left in the program in 2009.

I wouldn't be surprised if enrollment drops again in 2010 and 2011.

For all that enrolled prior to 2009, the 40 hour requirement does not pertain. It only pertains to those who apply after 2009.

Nice year to tack on an additional $320 cost/or 16 hours to the program. I bet there are a bunch of out of work hunters out there just dying to pay their application fee, registration fee, COR fee, and then spend time fixing fence rather than looking for a job! LOL! DWR just might take it in the shorts!

CLARIFICATION: Folks who are currently in the program (enrolled before 2009) are still only required to do 24 service hours until they expire. Once they re-enroll, they also must adhere to the new requirement of 40 service hours.

I guess it might depend on what the DWR is having you do for your hours. 40 hrs on the end of a chain saw would certainly be a killer and I've seen a few of those days. The Northern boys seem to get the cushy jobs to do for their hours though, so it turns into be an organized social.

We'll see if the DWR will have enough projects for everyone to do? Just make sure you dont wait for summer to role around, and then try ing to find projects to do. There were plenty of times my buddies waited too long and they didnt have anything for them to do. (Unless you specialize in a specific area, and they happen to need your help.) If their going to require they sure as heck better find the projects to do.

There is always money to be donated.

Little known fact - if you donate money straight to DWR for your hours, you can only donate so much. But, if you donate to a third party that then donates supplies to the DWR - you can buy every one of your hours. There will always be ways that people can hit their hours - it just might cost you more $$$$.
