2008 Buck

Here is the buck my son and I got this year after a lot of walking and searching for bucks. Hot and dry during the muzzle loader and rifle hunt in Central region of Utah this year. I shot this buck on Oct. 25th and it was still in about 90% velvet!

Mike Christensen from Sage Basin (American Fork, Utah) did an outstanding job on the European mount. He was very professional and easy to work with and I will use again.

RE: Euro Mount

Congrats on a sweet buck, really cool how the G2 curls on that left side. I wonder why it was still in velvet. Was it a stag?

RE: Euro Mount

Sweet deer. The mass is really cool on him! I love to pose while my dad cleans my deer too! HA!

Congrats with a muzz too!

RE: Euro Mount

I'm sorry, i just hate it when guys hold there deer horns out and the camera right up close!!! Why??? Thumbs down! Just my opinion!

Way to go sageadvice lets start ripping on someone who is proud of what him and his son found and harvested this year, who cares how the pics are taken cant you see the smiles behind the horns. I say great job on a good buck for your son congrats, i am sure you will cheris the memories good job!!!

RE: Euro Mount

I'm not ripping on the deer, the deer is obviously a nice one, stands by itself. I'm saying that i haven't and continue to not like it when people use trick photography to make their bucks look bigger than they are. If you all condone that, fine! i don't and that's my opinion. I'm seeing it more and more. I see guys sitting or standing way behind their game animal, Why?? To make it look bigger. Until people speak their opinions on this deceptive practice, it's likely to continue.

On the other hand, i do understand your point. All hunting pic's are good pic's and jumping on someone doesn't help to getting more posters. I just wish people would realize that any animal they take let alone a fine trophy animal doesn't need to be exadurated(sp).

Sage - why don't we keep it upbeat in 2009! Do you really think or care why someone takes a picture the way they do?

Great buck, and thanks for sharing your photos with those of us who just appreciate seeing them.

I'm sorry you feel that way. I've read a lot of your posts and have built some admiration in the process. I guess everybody is entitled to their opinion, you are yours.

Ya know, i rairly see any of the regular guys here post pic's of their bucks the way i'm describing as silly. Most of the guys do an excellent job, it's the occational shots that obviously were taken to overly impress i'm talking about. To me, it's boring and silly, who are they trying to impress? Let the animal speak for itself. All taken animals are good animals. There's just no need.

LAST EDITED ON Jan-02-09 AT 10:02AM (MST)[p]Sage, I edited - but you caught me talking bad. Sorry!

Also, its not lost on me that I asked you to keep it positive in my edit, and then I didn't in my original post.

It took me a while to keep my own 2009 resolution.

Honestly, I never thought of how I took a photo . . .

RE: Euro Mount

I did feel the insult but you are right as well. Believe me, i hear you, and do understand your, and others, concern. I just don't know any other way to get my point across.

RE: Euro Mount

Hey thanks for the positive comments. Some folks need to relax, it took me an hour to upload the images and I still can't figure out how to post the correct size of image and now you suggest I am fluent in trick photography? My first pose with a buck, next time I will make sure and hold it close enough to make it look like I have the antlers on my head...

RE: Euro Mount

Thanks for the kind words Burt. That was a very nice deer. Congrats to you and the best part is that your son was able to be there and enjoy the experience.

Joey, Look at his arms. They are bent at the elbow, he is not holding the buck straight out. Also, that plaque is an angled one, with a another plaque and the offset behind it. I'd wager that the back of the overall plaque is only a couple inches from him. Keep the negativity to yourself next time. For every one negative comment there are a dozen who enjoyed seeing the photo.

Packout, who do you think you're kidding with that comment? So you do that in your buck picks too? I doubt it. I said my bit but not to sorry for it because the only person i need to impress is my girlfriend.

Utahflyguy, this may well be your fist pose with a buck but i'll wager from your handle that you have taken some with fish. Man, i suppose i did get outa hand on your selection of pic's to show, don't mean anything personal against you or your nice buck. It's a general mentality by some i'd like to see changed and i took my wish out in your thread. My bad!

I will give you some advice then: Start your own thread and title it: 'How to take picks of bucks' Then, those that are interested will read it.

Provo: That is a nice buck!

RE: Euro Mount

woodruff, Good thought! I actually already said "My Bad" for expressing my pet pieve about this particular photo spread, the worst example has been deleted, while he was just coming here to show us his buck. I have all ready above given my thoughts on the subject. In the future i'll do as you suggest.

Just about everyone here has axes to grind, laundry to hang, or fits to pitch. I do try to be civil, i don't go looking to give snide or rude remarks without provocation and even then as now, i look at things from someone elses perspective before doing so. My bad!
