This was the new state record when harvested. It has been officially scored and I wanted to share it with everyone. This is my neighbors buck, for privacy I won't divulge the name, but the following year his brother harvested another buck that officially score 1" better. LOL This deers antlers were on a wall until about last year when he finally had it put on a head mount.

At least 210 gross... but who cares? Absolute beauty of a buck.
Please fill us in on the details once you get past the score questions.

Sorry it took me so long... If I remember correctly this buck was harvested in 1977 up out of Echo Canyon. He won a BIG BODY contest and won a new rifle. We all know how much more impressive the bodies were back in the day. Anyway, this guy apparently weighed in somewhere around 330 lbs. dressed!!! My neighbor was told he should the antlers officially scored and a local scored them at 200"... With that, as this was a possible new state record, the antlers were sent back to New York to be scored again... As these antlers were going sometime in 1979, my neighbor's brother decided to send his from a deer he shot in 1978... Both returned and were within 1" of each other. This buck officially scores exactly 199" net (Which was one inch shorter than the original scoring indicated). The plaque on the wall next to him is the official award for having been the state record...

Note: The brother's deer grossed 200" exactly if I remember right. I will find the book that contains both of these bucks and post it...

That is one heck of a beautiful buck! He certainly does have it all - beautiful trophy and a huge body! He probably could have done a full body mount back then for around $250 (just guessing - some old taxi will probably correct me.)

That's a great looking Buck! I am assuming that by Echo Canyon you mean Utah? I checked through my B&C book and found at least 20 Bucks form Utah that were bigger than 199" and killed before 1977 just FYI.

Soooo..... I was confusing the story behind this deer with that of another large buck my neighbor has...

This buck was taken in 1958, in Utah, near Echo Canyon. The deer his brother shot was form 1959. They are both listed in a book titled "Utah's biggest bucks". I don't have the book but I remember it is divided into typical and non-typical, and they are listed in order of size...

I've got some egg on my face for sure... LOL thanks to everyone that was interested. My neighbor is so humble about the large deer he has harvested, I thought I'd put a little bit of a spotlight on him...
