LAST EDITED ON Jan-23-09 AT 03:28PM (MST)[p]I spent a couple days up there for a cow elk hunt in Nov. There were TONS of deer. The biggest we saw MIGHT have been 150.

ktg............Thats seems to be the norm............................utards just dont know how good it is in COLARADO to draw a poor tag and it is better than a draw tag in utah that takes seven years ++ ORE MORE to draw a rifle tag for a poor unit .................but thanks any way for the info ................................................

I have seen some in the 170's the last few years. But most people end up with an average 22-24 140-150 class buck. Their are alot of bucks in that range the bigger ones are their but hard to kill especially if you dont have any private property to hunt. I would say 9 out of 10 bucks over the 160 mark that I have seen have been on private land. It could be a good hunt, but hard to find the older bucks where yoou can have a chance. I agree when you say the crap areas in Colorado are as good as the areas in Utah that will take you years to draw.

I helped a friend on the 08' muzzy hunt and I have a cow tag for the late january hunt that ends on the 31st. The deer are doing well you will see alot of deer and alot of bucks but there are alot of small 3 and 4 points. 120 class with a few ranging up to the 150 class consider yourself very lucky to find much over the 150 mark but its a fun hunt. Good luck in the draw!

I live in Vernal, just a short drive form diamold and also have land up there. Just about every year a family member will have a tag. Most of the time its a muzzleloarder tag. I would have to say thats the best deer hunt up there. My dad killed his last buck up there, my mom too. My sister, my aunt and I all killed are first bucks up there with muzzleloarders and all three net scored 158 (kind of cool). some cousen and other aunts and uncle and grandparent have all killed big bucks. Diamold is the place to hunt if you have a horse or a key to a gate.

here a buddys buck

a buck like that makes you think diamond mountain is the new Henries unit! (maybe not quite but a great buck).

thats not hope thats 1 year of growin. the year before that buck was about 22 inches wide with a 6 inch drop and 1 sticker. My older sister past up the buck the year before and i hoped for the chance of him coming on the side of the fence that i could hunt.

Yes - most of it is private and bucks like that are the exception - even on the private land. Diamond is NOT the new Henries.

you know that alot of diamond is posted and hard to get on too, i heard that two dog has most of it to themselfs alot depends on how many points you want to burn if it is over 5 then i would say try your luck on a another unit that has more area to offer it might be worth it to wait a year if you had to then settle for a deer that is not that high is quality you might have to many years invested

i live in vernal have seen bigger bucks come off diamond than out the bookcliffs but you need 9 10 points for rifle tag welcome to utah draw b.s. why

I drew the 2009 rifle hunt for diamond I can't wait...I'm originally from Vernal, hows it lookin for deer up there nowdays?
