LAST EDITED ON Feb-09-07 AT 06:33PM (MST)[p] JUST FOR HECK OF IT: WHAT WOULD BE YOUR BEST S.W.A.G. ...SCIENTIFIC WILD ASS GUESS ON HOW MANY MORE YEARS IT WOULD TAKE TO DRAW A EARLY (RUT) RIFLE TAG IN ARIZONA??? I NOW HAVE 10 POINTS AND AM IN NO HURRY TO DRAW, OR MIGHT OPT FOR A LATE TAG ...JUST DEPENDS. 3,5 ,7 ,9 YEARS, I'M WATCHING THE #'s CLOSE BUT STILL DONT REALLY KNOW. TAKE A STAB AT IT, ....YD.

You'd be crazy to put in for the late hunt with that many boner points. 10 years and you can hunt a big boy

Sorry, but for a N/R I'd say 15 is a good bet with the way the system is....

LAST EDITED ON Feb-09-07 AT 11:02PM (MST)[p]Soooo is it a waste of $$ to start the game now as a nr?? O points and hoping for a archery hunt in the next ten years. Am I dreaming and wasting my no refund money every year? Certainly don't have money to throw away but will invest for a great hunt. Tks nwhunter

You likely wont see unit 9 or 10 in the next 10 years. You will likely be able to draw a lesser hyped unit and would likely draw a late rifle tag. Having said that, if folks in the big buildings get their way they will quadruple tags and you may draw twice in 10 years but be lucky to find a 300 bull.

For reference, I am a NR with 11 points.

Put in for a late hunt. Most people who get drawn in the primo hunts don't even kill a big bull. I know lots of people who take great bulls on the late hunts.

Northwest

You have better odds with archery, but I have a friend in Oregon who now has 10 points for Elk... Hopefully this is his year.

I talked with Game and fish the other day- was told there are 2 people with 18 points= max.

I am with you in having 10 points. There are about 1400 of us with 10 pts. Both res and no-res.

Given the non-res cap- early rifle may be a long ways off, but you just dont know....depends on the unit.

Archery.....I think we're pretty close...............

I'll keep waiting for an early hunt..........

northwesthunter,

I would not start there with 0 points. I am in too far to quit now and have had several tags :)

I would spend the money to apply in several other states and do a couple of DYI's for the cost.

My 2 cents,

Archer

YD, go for the early rifle tag. It will probably take around 13-15 points to have a really good shot at it. I wouldn't recommend a late rifle hunt with that many points it just isn't worth it. If your thinking archery let me know, your tag would be in your mail box within the next two years.
