hey guys, i go school in california near santa cruz and am wondering about archery deer hunting opportunities come september when i return to classes. i have a place in scotts valley where i consistently see plenty of deer on my property and was wondering what the laws were regarding getting a tag and shooting one off my deck. i have been told that it is legal to do so with a bow but was just wanting to confirm that with you guys. any info would be most appreciated about the legality, license and tag fees, etc. thanks so much

Happy Hunting

I belive you need 200yards of seperation from ANY structure on an adjacent property. And or that neighbor's permission to hunt within the setback. Call the CA DFG. Or e mail. They told a friend of mine he would be legal. And he lives in the county of Marin. You would be in the A zone. It is open to archery now. The A tag is good for both the archery and rifle seasons. You can use a bow during the rifle season.

Nvgstew, are you talking about Scott Valley in Siskiyou County? If so that would be a B-tag and you can use a Bow during Archery season and a Rifle during the Rifle season. If it's not Scott Valley in Siskiyou County the disregard what I just said.

As far as shooting off your deck I believe what the other gentleman said is true, however if I was you I would definatley check with the DFG.

Good luck

You are definitely in the A zone. I'd be careful hunting so close to all those tree huggers at UCSC which is where I assume you are going to school. I would also check for permission since all property near your location is either private or state/county parks that do not allow hunting.
