I am a first timer at soley hunting for mule deer in WY and trying to put a trip together is not easy considering i have never been there. I have asked many questions on this site and have got a lot of good feedback which i appreciate, but noone will help out when it comes down to "Where should i apply for?" If someone said apply for 131 its the best then i probably will because i dont know. Im gona go G-E-H i guess and hope it doesnt suck. I am a die hard hunter and will do my best no matter where i go. Paying any amount of money to hunt somewhere is not an issue and physical ability is not an issue as well. I would rather not pay and do it myself on public lands but everyone on here says you gota go private or i would look somewhere else. i may go to colorado now i dont know.

thanks for any replys

seriously man, your faced with the same delemma many others here face, bottom line you either gotta hire a guide and save some time getting to know an area or ? ...don't expect some one to hand you the GPS to a spot they're probably trying to draw for also.

I've hunted H and G before, all you have to do is be in the wrong drainage at the wrong time for it to turn out to be a dead zone. been there done that.

thats why its called hunting.

Good answer Manny.

BTW, the Uintah Basin a little further south is much better than anything mentioned above. Plus has some legendary hunters/huntress's that roam them hills.

If you want to go on a fun hunt and get a buck, most any unit in Wyoming will allow you to do this provided you hunt hard and are willing to get out of the truck. If you want a for sure area that you will see bigger bucks, good luck with that. There's lots of great info, some in tidbits, in the back pages of these forums, you may do well by spending some hours going through them.

Colorado is much the same but has a lot more mountains. For that matter anyplace that you go, you're going to have some difficulty getting a "good buck" in an area you can draw or buy OTC unless you hire a guide. It just takes time afield and your own feeling for an area. For your first trip, a guide might be money well spent.

Some dont want to give away their hotspots and quite a few dont want to lead you astray either. In Wyoming and Colorado check what others are saying about certain units that may be hard to draw areas, find an area next door to it that is otc or easy to draw, get some maps, look for large pieces of blm and public and go hunting. I dont think you can go too wrong just looking for any type buck. Send me a pm if ya want, I can tell ya where there is deer, thats not a problem. Monster bucks are a problem.

Did you read the post "wyoming" right here on the deer forum ? It has all the info you need.

Hey if you send me a pm I can get you some information on different areas in Wyoming.

If you have never hunted Region G and don't have high country experience I would put in for something else. You might want to research Region W, and it's 100% draw if you have any points.

Take WyoXtec's advice if you are not prepared to hunt highcountry like region G. If you are not able to get into the backcountry and stay there(most are not without horses)then you might not have the best hunt. There are other areas in Wyoming that are not as difficult to hunt that also provide some good deer hunting, region W for instance, as noted above. If you are set on G, then be prepared physically to withstand several days hunting steep mountain terrain. There is plenty of info on this site on region G if you do a search. There isn't much anybody can tell you that hasn't already been said before. Don't bother listing E and H as your second and third choices, you won't draw them.
