Anyone know anything about this unit. I just got access to a huge ranch owned by a family friend. It's about 25,000 acres. The actual unit is 2B.

I can't find any info about the mule deer hunting in the unit anywhere. I would love to get out and scout it but want to see if there are any particulars about the unit with regards to deer numbers, quality, migration, etc.

I've posted other places and ....zip. Nothing.

Any help would be appreciated.

RedneckSundevil Ive never hunted that unit but Ive heard there are some really big bucks there. The problem is most of its private or Indian land. If you got 25,000 acres I say go for it.

Thanks quest. Yeah, that's about what I hear. The terrain is mostly flat in the unit, but this land has some elevation to it. I talk to people in the area and they don't give me much. They just say "kinda hit or miss".

Yeah i wouldnt waste your time in that unit for any thing. Your alot better off down in the desert in the 40's. So what ranch is it that you have access to?

RedneckSundevil If you look at Arizona Wildlife Trophies 2005 page 32. In order it list 13B,13A,12AE,12B,2 and so on. These are the units that are likely to yield B.C bucks based on %. Take unit 13B it has a 2.5% chance at a B.C buck. Now unit 2 doesn't have a very high % but if you don't try you never will know what you could of. Just my thoughts.

I don't know the actual name, just my dad's friend. I'm going over to meet with him this week to get the 'lay of the land'.

I don't know the area, but the fact you have almost 40 sq miles to hunt (assuming little or no pressure) tells me that bucks probably die of old age out there. I'd work the place like a plow mule and see what it offers....owner can probably tell ya a bit too.

good luck

yeah i know that unit really well and it is all subdevided. that rancher might have 25000 acres but it will be checker boarded state,BLM with the 40 acre people. very few deer very few and far between. so do you know people there in st. johns?

Yeah, I may bag it. I don't have a ton of time to scout these days (6 kids). Seems like alot of flat area with little cover and all i've heard is low densities of deer. I'll find out where it is, etc and then decide.
Thanks for all your help. Oh, and SHOOT, I don't know anyone in the area. You from around there?
