If you are a non-resident and have 11 bonus points for deer in AZ then the only way you're gonna have a chance to draw a late 12B, 13A, 13B, 12A West (late)or 12A East (late) tag is by getting into the max bonus point pool.(Sorry this my my position and not that of the AZ G&F Dept.)
Right now about 266 NR's are in that pool. Another 500 or so have 11 points and most only need the AZ Hunter Ed permanent point to get into that magical max pool.
My Hunter Ed team is doing our last one-day supplemental (NR) class in Kingman for '09 on April 18.
Take this class and you join the hunters in the max pool who, IMO are the only ones who have a chance at one of those premium deer tags.
The permanent bonus point is good for more than deer however. It is good for ALL of Arizona's big game animals, so if you apply for ANY of Arizona's big game tags, you ought to take this class. It will help you draw tags!
To sign up, contact Dave Williams at AZ G&F at 623-236-7434 and he'll have you FAX him a copy of your state's hunter ed card that shows you graduated from a class since 1980. Then and only then, will he sign you up.
Right now I have about 16 spots left in the class.
This is a one-day (12 hour) class and it starts promptly at 7 a.m. AZ time.
If nothing else, find out how the AZ draw truly works--it might be different than you think! Plus I have the latest data on the number of sportsmen in every level of bonus points for each species of big game animals.
