Well, obviously it ain't hangin' right in front of me, but it looks super on my computer.

I like the accessory artwork.

I guarantee my first one would not look that nice.

Stay with it and always remember that these things represent powerful memories for your customers, not to mention the financial investment. They have high expectations.

Ive done a couple on some decent bucks of mine. I been saying how gratifying and reasonably priced it is to scout, hunt, kill, and then mount your own trophy. How do you like it? Feels pretty good i'll wager.

From what i can see yours is nicer than the ones i've done. Don't tell me that though, i like mine just fine thank you :)

LAST EDITED ON Mar-20-09 AT 09:12AM (MST)[p] WELL.....ITS NOT BAD AT ALL.....THE ELK LOOKS BETTER THAN THE DEER. THE DEER....NEEDS MORE CUT DEFINATION/DETAIL/ITS A BIT FULL & ROUND IN ITS MUZZLE & THE NOSE IS A TAD BIT SQUARE. THE EYES & EARS ARE OK...THE LACK OF COORDINATION BETWEEN THE TWO CAN WRECK A MOUNT. ITS NOT BAD AT ALL THOUGH.....LIKE MOST THINGS IT JUST TAKES PRACTICE. ...........YD.

Not bad for you first couple. The biggest thing I see is the small ear butts. When looking straight on, the ear butts should be about as wide as the widest part of the ear. On the elk, the ears are set too far back, also. The lacrimal crease should be tucked more. Also, I would tone down the black paint on the eyes and lacrimal crease. Use flesh tones and browns.

I also thought the elk looks better than the deer - but they both look good.

Echo waht YD said - the deer's eyes look a little sunken, the glands are a little too dark and too well defined.

+1 on NMTAXI
Better than my first attempt, but being a good Taxi takes lots of practice and good feedback, so KUDOs for asking advice.

I agree with nmtaxi...also on the elk, there is some white at the rear of the eye showing,....unless the elk is looking to his right then you may have pulled the eyelid a bit far back. I don't know what forms you used.....I will tell you this,....don't pinch pennies on supplies and forms.....it WILL come back to haunt you later. Overall,.....not bad for your first couple of mounts.....keep at it and read all you can about it. In addition to being a firefighter, I've been a taxidermist for almost 40 years. Good job on asking some opinions.....shows that you wish to learn....good for you.

very good for your first ones, much better than the ones i did early on. listen to the guys here that have given you some good advice. mount as many as you can as practice will make perfect, or certainly make you better. Taxidermy seems to be an ever evolving art so keep up with the latest techniques and supplies

CRAP!!!!.....That is probably my personal greatest physical issue, my "lacrimal crease" is messed up! Now I know!

There is no end to the knowledge you can pick up around here.

LOL

Around the eyes seem too dark. The neck, right below the "white patch" on the deer doesn't look too natural.

However, overall it looks pretty good. I would say for the first attempt, you did an INCREDIBLE JOB.

I could do 50 animals and they would not turn out that good.

Stick with it, I suspect you will become great at Taxidermy.

NICKMAN.......YOU DONT EVEN KNOW WHICH END OF THE BUCK HAS A LACRIMAL CREASE.......NOW DO YOU ????........LOL.....YD.

Nice! Thanks To All Who Chimned In... The Info Is Really Helpfull.. I Can Stare And stare At These Things until My eyes Are Sore And Getting Your Perspective Can really Help Me Improve My Future Mounts.. The Eyes I Used Are Meant To Show White So I Was Aware Of That, But Good Spottin Friend.. Ear Butts Ear Butts Ear Butts.. Probally My Most Difficult Part, But I Will Hone My Skill There Thanks A Bunch Guys... Keep Em Coming..

nmtaxi said he can see it, so I guess it is on the front of the deer.

I was refering to my own lacrimal crease....having problems. At my age, I am always looking for something else that will give me trouble.....Can you get sand stuck in there?
