What size bucks are being killed on the Oak Creek Unit ??

I am looking at getting a conservation tag and wandered what has been harvested on the unit in the last couple of years.

Thanks

It's just like most LE units....put in your time and you have a chance of killing a "decent buck". Compared to most other units, it has a relatively low number of deer (and size-wise it is a small unit). I've known several people that have had tags in the last couple of years and have ate tag soup. I know if a 1 or 2 of bruisers that were killed and I know of a several 160-180 class bucks that were killed. Overall, it's a pretty rugged unit to hunt. I personally would be a bit hesitant to spend the money on a conservation tag for this unit, but I guess it all depends on what your expectations are.

Anyone care to share what the tags sold for at the banquet last night? Also the price of the Nebo Archery tag? Thanks.

Nebo Archery Elk $3500
Nebo Any Weapon Elk $6000
Book Cliffs Any Weapon Deer $3200!!!
Dutton Any Weapon Elk $14000

Just a few I know of. Con tags are all over the place this year.

Thanks for the info. Like Prism said, prices seem to be all over the place. On Friday, the Books archery deer was $2,500 and San Juan deer was $20,000. Tax write-offs. A 1000 Lakes archery elk sold for $4,000 and it is 10x the unit as the Nebo.

I think on average that most of the lower prices are being paid by residents, and the "expensive" tags are going to nonresidents that are being pursuaded by guides/outfitters to bid on certain tags/areas that they are familiar with.

Doesn't work this way all of the time but most of the time.

They really are all over the place this year, but on average they're down and will continue drop in value. My guess anyways.

Utah's con elk tag prices are a pretty good indicator of what's happening to the overall quality of Utah's bulls. They're slipping...

At the Delta Banquet there was a guy I was sitting buy that tried to buy both the Oak Creek tags but got out bid buy guys on phones so he ended up buying the MtNebo archery elk tag and was a local guy and it was obvious the other guys bidding on the Oak Creek tags were not. I Agree with Prism elk herds are slipping hope we all can help fix this problem. on_target

My friend had a bull tag last year I seen some nice deer but you better get some good boots you will wear out a pair to get were the good deer are

I know this unit pretty well. I have hiked and hunted about every corner of it. To say the better bucks live in the nasty stuff is an understatement.I have seen many guys draw this tag and have their a$$ handed to them in two days time. Leave your 4 wheeler at home because road hunting in this unit is non existent. There is always one or two good bucks that come out of here but 160 or going home empty is more the norm.

These tags are over priced!

Bull, maybe you should invest in an Oak Creek ELK tag! LMAO! A guy my dad knows purchased an Oak Creek elk tag last year during a drukin' stuper for $7,500. Needless to say he didn't kill a bull! The unit was pretty good for elk about 7 or 8 years ago. The DWR did a really good job at putting a whammy to that!

Thats funny legacy, they know what they're doing when they start serving drinks!

A word to the wise :"NEVER DRINK WHEN MONEY IS ON THE LINE"

I bet there are a few elk still left somewhere in Utah , and maybe if i am lucky ,i just might find a nice bull this fall.
