Narrowed it down to GMU 30-3rd, 21-2nd, or 53-4th for deer.

Which would you choose? Any pictures of bucks from these units?

Never hunted any of them but I know a few guys that have hunted 21 2nd season and they said it was a good hunt. I believe the biggest buck they got was in the low 180's. Looking at the success rates and # of hunters 53 4th looks like a quality hunt. Good luck.

I vote 30 3rd season. Like lostinOregon said, winter kill hurt 53. 2nd season 21 is too early for the big ones and the last few years haven't be as good (maybe like most units due to warm weather). While I like 30, it doesn't have the roads like 21 and it is a lot rougher. It just depends on what you are looking for in a hunt.

In 2008 53 4th season had 9 hunters kill 9 bucks. I know the winter of 07-08 was terrible but I just dont think that those 9 guys wasted all those points to just go shoot a 3x3. I think it would be safe to assume that not all those guys applied just to call the D.O.W.'s bluff. Judging by the #'s all three look like a good hunt and I wish I was sitting on that many points. Good luck this fall whatever you choose.

Accubond i was one of those 9 and BELIEVE me it was that bad!If i had the points to draw that unit i would not until the herd recovers.I got there 5 days early to scout and was there the whole season in that time i saw one buck i would consider a shooter 180+ and that was it.Including Mine i saw 4 of the bucks killed on that hunt 170" was the best.I"m not saying the unit doesn't hold big deer it just isn't what it has been in years past.I will say the weather did suck, very warm with no snow to speak of.Good luck what ever you decide

53 had no significant winterkill to speak of. Lack of snow and warm temps were the factors las year.

I will say this hunting the 4th season in Colorado is nothing like the earlier seasons.I almost forgot i was in Colorado the last few days of the season i was the only one out hunting.

I didn't mean to ruffle any feathers on the hunting in 53 and I guess my standards aren't what most are either, you show me a 160" mulie and I'll show you a filled tag.

53 4th would be my choice. Bucks are SUPER stupid and there are few people afield.
