LAST EDITED ON Apr-28-09 AT 06:20PM (MST)[p]It's an awesome buck.......but not the #1 P&Y mule deer. The Barcus buck from Colorado still holds that record. I believe it was an honorable mention during the 26th recording period which just completed at the P&Y Convention in Denver on Saturday. There were some awesome animals on display there. Congrats to the hunter on a true buck of a lifetime.

Thats kind of funny because, I havested a buck in Alberta (2007) that goes 204 3/8 gross and nets 195 4/8 net pope and young. Official pope and young! Also Peter something shot a buck in 07 also, that nets 3/8 of an inch bigger then mine. So I don't see how the one you are talking about is number one. I will look into more and get back to you.

LAST EDITED ON Apr-29-09 AT 01:47PM (MST)[p]Just got off the phone with the Pope and Young club. Your budies deer is the third largest from Alberta. Peter's is number one with a score of 196 1/8 net and 221 gross typical (yes 221 gross typical). Mine is number two with a score of 195 4/8 net and 204 gross typical. Your budies (Niel friesen) is number three at 194 3/8 net. All bucks were harvested in 2007-2008.

Hope this clears things up. These are just the largest out of Alberta. They are in the top 20 all time Pope and Young but, by know means a world record.

I was just reiterating what the original post said as I don't have a dog in this hunt so to speak.

Big buck none-the-less and let's see some pics of the others as long as we're measuring...

Sorry don't know how to post pictures on here. You can read the story on my and peter's buck in the Hunting Issustrated mag issue August/September 08. There is also a picture of my buck on my web site under gear and reviews-Bows

This post really makes me appreciate what Alberta has to offer. I'm not sure where those bucks were taken, but it still speaks to the quality of the deer and a well-managed herd. Sure wish I could go there every year. Congrats to all three hunters on tremendous trophies. STUDS!
