Exchanging A Utah Tag

All,

I drew out for a Non-Res Utah NorthEastern Muzzle Tag for Deer, just found out that I have a huge three day meeting the first 3-days of the hunt. I was wondering if anyone has ever exchanged/swapped a tag with someone or even if it's possible? As an alternative, I would like to have the Utah Rifle NorthEastern Deer if possible. Any advice?

Thanks,Utaz

You can go to any division office and exchange your general muzzleloader deer tag for a rifle deer tag in the same region. $5 cost per tag.

I just noticed you are a non-resident. I assume this can also be done by mail, but I have always done this in person. The exchange needs to be done before the start of the hunting season.

Correct. As long as you have a NE muzz tag, you can get a NE rifle tag in exchange. The quota is based on region (NE, for example) not on weapon type.

Thanks again for the information, I can breath again and not have to look for a new job.

My dad had the same thing come up. He called and talked to someone at the division office and she talked to someone else and came back and said he couldn't change his tag. I told him to call and talk to someone else. As long as it is the same region and a muzz for rifle swap why not?

I don't think a NE region general season muzz or rifle tag is worth quitting a job over. Good luck on your hunt.

You can exchange it in the same unit. I'm doing it myself this year, plans changed. I was told it's a $10 charge and yes you have to do it before your muzzy hunt starts. good luck!

prism...it might if your job was cleaning shitters and you hated your boss!

Ha Ha!

I guess you never know though. Here are some photos of NER bucks that should be out there this fall. The velvet one maybe not, but the hard horned ones were taken in Nov. Sadly, these are some of the better bucks I saw on public lands during the rut in the NER. Good luck on your hunt.

So your telling me i could put in for a much easier to draw southern muzz tag and then just turn around and pay 10 bucks and get a rifle tag? That doesnt sound right to me.

Dax-

Those are some dang nice NE bucks, they should be pushing 180 by this fall-with all of this moisture we're getting and all.

Try and keep these bruisers on the downlow for sure.

My understanding is that the Rifle and Muzz tags are in one "pool". That is how it has been in the past for the northern region, but maybe that only applies to tags not taken in the draw. I do realize that the southern region is different with all the tags going the draw. they probably have to set certain numbers for each hunt down south. I really don't know for sure.
