ok im new to bowhunting and i really wanted to know whats a good area to start scouting, i was thinking of the peaks any input, i dont want to draw a tag in unit 12 or 13 for archery so any other areas would help!! im not a trophy hunter im just looking for an area in northern az with some high deer numbers

LAST EDITED ON May-07-09 AT 06:11PM (MST)[p]I don't believe a unit exists south of the canyon in AZ with "high deer numbers". Oh there are a few pockets that hold some decent numbers but as a whole our state numbers suck. IMO if you are after the best numbers you need to head to the most southern units. If you a are only interested in N. AZ than almost any unit is as good as the next.

If your not gonna hunt N. of the ditch then you are better off hunting the desert areas in DEC/JAN....

The Peaks are in unit 7 which is now a draw tag. Units 6b and 8 hold some deer and it is still over the counter for archery. the problem is there will be a lot of people in these units as well. I would try to hunt these during the week and not the weekends.
