I am looking for someone with 12 bonus points for Arizona. I have 11 points = 23 total /2=11.5 each which is 12 each by Az rules. I know where we could have a 83% chance to draw top mule deer unit. Please contact me if anybody knows someone resident or non-resident. [email protected]

Darn,I just sent mine in the other day with 12 points! Just curious, how would you be able to figure this years odds?
David

Based on History ,Of course all things change year to year. 1st we are in a reccession. The odds should go up. I know its affected the way my family and I have applied thus far.I am the only one putting in out of 8 of us. And I'm a hunting fanatic!!!!!!!! The difference between max points and 1 below max is huge, Like 75%+. I was really hoping for a non-resident with max points and my contribution would be knowledge and scouting and hunt planning.

Thanks for the reply & hope you're right with your odds forecast.Putting in with a NR would put you in the 10% rule & wouldn't a 2 person application be kicked out if it was drawn for the last NR tag?For example, 13B has 4 NR tags & if your party application was the 4th drawn wouldn't it be passed over?

Don't count on it. Thats what all the "experts said about the elk draw and it didn't make a noticeable difference.

Drnaln,
You are correct. If it is the last one drawn, the tag will not be issued.

Putting 2 people on an app with only a handful of tags available to a NR is insane. That alone decreases your odds.

And there is not a guarantee of 10% of the tags to NR. It is only up to 10%.

Roger that.

I have a good friend in Connecticut who had been applying for elk with my son and me. As we started accummulating BPs and they put the 10% rule back in place after the USO fiasco, I told him he would need to apply on his own because he greatly diminished our chances of being drawn. Of course, I also told him if he got lucky and we didn't I would be there with him on his hunt. So far no one has been lucky, though. :-(

How To Hunt Coues Deer

Thanks for all your imput ,but I have already considered all these things and the odds are hugely in my favor to still draw. Not everybody wants 13b . The average hunter only kills a 180 class deer on that hunt anyway. And your chances of drawing that are 1.9 %. Non residence have the same chance as you and I with thier bonus points except the 10% cap, and the odds are still way better in the right units. See most non-residents want 13B thanks to the great muley magazines of the day. So its cleared the way for some opportunity in other good units.

Well, if the average is 180.....That's awesome! No doubt some on other hunts will beat average on 13B. But more than what you actually harvest, potential, legend, and such add to the experience. Not saying it is worth the extra wait, as opposed to other good units you will likely get sooner. Just there is more to it than what you put on the wall and final score.

LAST EDITED ON May-23-09 AT 11:17PM (MST)[p]If you don't want a strip tag, there are 180 bucks in some units you can draw right now, why do want 2 to draw? You can draw 100% with 7 points and hunt the rut, you might kill 190+.

If you don't want 13B it seems like you would have a better chance putting in solo with your 11 points. If your a NR the 10% cap rule is "huge" when trying to draw the tougher tags in Arizona!Good luck in the draw!
David

Drnaln Remember a non resident with max points is in a better position to draw than 1 below max points held by a resident in some good units.

Maddglasser, I am not talking about killing 180" deer I have had the privilege to kill close to a 190" mule deer. I am talking about the very good possiblity to kill a 200" + deer. I set my goals incrementally with a ultimate goal always as a opportunity waiting to happen by being in the right place at the right time.

I guess you must be a NR like myself. That gets real complicated because of the up to 10% NR rule & the 20% pass rule. After the 2008 draw there were 61 residents & 161 NR's with max points,12.A few more NR's have moved into that pool by taking the Hunter Ed class but a resident with a few less them max is in pretty good shape to draw any unit!
David

What unit are you trying to draw? From what you say it seems as though it is a north of the ditch unit. If that is the case, it will decrease your odds to apply with another hunter. And if it takes max points to draw, its not just any unit in AZ.

I am glad you don't want to kill a little 180. Leaves more for us I guess. I was trying to find something to go off of, but I guess I will have my guy's apply solo. They have a better chance anyway!

Interesting read....

I did 13A bow buck with 7 + the loyalty pt.

Nothing in stone that I will draw out of the non-ressy pool but I have nothing to hunt the last 10 days of August.......other than maybe a Wyo Antelope bow buck tag if drawn.

Heck Travis don't feel bad.......I'll come hunt with you and we'll just clean up the "little" 170's. :)

LAST EDITED ON May-26-09 AT 11:46PM (MST)[p]I'm with the Royalty here, I don't want to waste my time with dinky AZZ 180-190 bucks here. Are there any guy's guys out there that are willing to let me put in on your application so I can better my odds of killing a 200"+ buck or better. If you can't offer me any good units PLEASE don't bother.

My tag, your tag, anybodies tag, it's all about me.

This thread is getting interesting. I will take your rude comments with a grain of salt so if we ever meet in the field we can be friends. 1st I am a resident . 2nd , There's no arrogance here only a simple question? I had a very well known Guide tell me to try this it would help me and the person I put in with. Your acting like a 200" deer is out of line and no one should have that goal. Last time we hunted this area we took a 212" 210" and 180+. I love to hunt and to help my buddies hunt and see my friends get the trophy of a lifetime!!! Is it so wrong for a guy to wait all his life ,put in his time, try to make happen a dream of a lifetime.
SirRoyal

Just take it with a grain of salt! There is no season right now, and we all get bored. Good luck with your quest.

SirRoyal,You have a better chance of drawing with 11 resident points then hooking up with a NR with 12 points.Don't know what unit you want, and don't care, but the 10% rule would really screw you on a NR aplication.
David

With the increase in tag numbers in 13b &13a you might have a good chance of drawing.I hunt both and like A better later in the rut and less hunters. Its a toss up for the biggest bucks in there,I have seen 240 plus bucks on both sides. You could spend your whole life out doors south of the ditch and never see a buck like on the strip,I know I have srent most of it out doors chashing lions and bears all over this state. There is the odd buck now and then ,but not anywhere near what you see on the strip.

idcurls- I don't think this needs to turn into another pissin match between what is the best unit! We all have our own opinions and reasons for hunting where we do! I don't feel it nec. to go into detail what I have seen south of the ditch.

It doesn't matter what unit you are applying for, if you need max points to get the tag, and as a resident you do not, putting 2 people on an app will decrease your odds. Just because you may get max points does not guarantee you a tag.
