BS Bucks

A little slow around here so I will post something that may (or may not) get a reaction.

I was ?part of? a hunt that resulted in the demise of a nice muley buck that was featured in Eastman?s. I know every detail of how, when, where and why the buck was killed and the story in Eastman?s was totally fabricated. Very few of the actual details matched.
I was literally ill when I read the story. It was not the fault of Eastman?s?it was the frauds that sent the story to them. Unless of course Eastman?s shined up the story a bit?...but, I have no reason to believe that is true.

What could I have done? If I had bitched it would have been sour grapes. So - I just left it alone and decided that is between them, karma, the hunting gods, the lord and maybe st. peter (but he probably does not get mixed up in such matters?).

Anyone else have a similar experience?

Interesting.
I dont see some hunting stories to be much different than a fishing story where the fish just keeps getting longer...

Care to stir the pot a bit and spill the beans since you have gone this far already?

Jeff

Maybe some night if I get enough truth serum in me. :)

This is no fishing story. A few things have been eating at me lately and this is one of them.

Just leads me to believe this problem is probably fairly common.

I'm guessing by who the hunter is this shouldn't go much further and I know Eastmans took them at their word.

Interesting.

You know who the hunter is? Were you there? I was...

I already said it was not the fault of eastmans and I truly believe that. My issue is with the person that wrote the story and submitted it to Eastman's.

I retract this part of my original post (because I have no reason to believe its true).

"Unless of course Eastman?s shined up the story a bit?"...

This portion of my original post is absolutely true and I will take it as far as I want.

"I know every detail of how, when, where and why the buck was killed and the story in Eastman?s was totally fabricated. Very few of the actual details matched."

lol....yeah buckspy, quit squirting water at this one...we need some excitement around here...

It was pretty obvious(blatently obvious) from the original pictures on the internet and the story later published. Of course I could be way off. Not trying to put any fires out either as everyone makes their own bed. Maybe the hunter was a great guy and a took cool pictures, right D13r? (joke)

Wow Buckspy - you are good. You got it all figured out with nothing more than my first and last name.

If 'it' was blatantly obvious then maybe the publisher does have some responsibility to ask more questions.

ramtagless:

I cannot count how many bullschit stories I have heard or read, compared to the real details. If you bring it up, you will just be labeled as "jealous."

On the flipside, I would never post one of my kills in a magazine, and certainly wouldn't want people to know where I hunt. Hard enough these days to keep a good spot a secret.

There is a buck in the book "Colorado's Biggest Bucks and Bulls", that had a pretty good story with it. That was until I met an oldtimer that knew the real story. He told me the buck ran across the road in front of the hunters, and they got out of the jeep and shot it.

Don't hold it against the magazine companies...their goal is to sell magazines which in turn sells advertising....boring true stories suck...and don't sell magazines...most the time it is best to pretend you are reading a novel. Between guys not wanting to give away their location and not wanting to admit the pure dumb luck and rule bending involved, they tend to stretch the story into something readable...just the way it is.

I am quite sure some of TR's stories stretched a little too.

LAST EDITED ON Jun-20-09 AT 06:46PM (MST)[p]I think the only one around here who tells the true hunting story is Founder. And I bet he won't make that mistake again:)

Ain't that the truth.

yah...ditto

"I was stalking this buck for miles, up the mountain and down into the canyon with over 6,000' elevation change." sells more magazines than, "I woke up late, peeked out the window of the motorhome, and there he was."

LAST EDITED ON Jun-22-09 AT 07:38AM (MST)[p]Unless it was somthing not legal then it is just another fish story or hunt story. If it was somthing that was not legal then you should contact the fish and game! I am sure that 50% of the storys out there are B.S 20% are shined up a little, the other 30% are just told from differant stand points.
No harm if it was a legal kill the rest is like everyone said just a story told in Eastmans....

I don't agree that as long as it's legal ? it's all good. I am not na?ve enough to think that all hunting stories are the gods honest truth. Stretching the truth to make a story more interesting is one thing. Lying about every single detail is another.

That's good stuff Eel?

Lets face it, the only difference between a three page article and a two paragraph story is the amount of b.s'n the writer can do. I agree with the "as long as nothing illegal happened, who cares". Most of you buddies will b.s. you, whats the difference if they do it in magazines to get you to read it.
