Where should I be looking for deer roughly the last 10 days of sept in the high country? Will they be pushed out of the high parks by hunters since it is the second week of rifle season? Deer units 152, 152, 153 & 156.

I plan to pack in several miles and hunt hunt DIY.

Just want an idea if where to start looking.

Thanks!

I would recomend you go and get "The Bottom Line" by David Long. That book is a great read and will help you decide how to hunt the later season. You could also get "Hunting high country Mule Deer" by Mike Eastman. There is a lot of info in these couple of books.

What liecabucks said. Go get "The Bottom Line". The book goes alot into the type of country you are hunting and where to look in all different types of situations.

The deer are still up high But after being chased for a week or more they move into the dark timber(pines) in the bottom of those steep little canyons and they can be hard to get into them.

I have Mike Eastmans book and have read it and saved it for future reference.Great reading for all muledeer hunters.

Try finding pockets of dead or burnt timber surrounded by heavy green timber. Bucks will often feed through these pockets on their way to bed. they provide decent feed in the timber and the bucks feel secure. takes alot of patience glassing deer this way.

Last year we found alot of them in rock slide area's. One minute nothing then a couple of bucks would pop up.

If you see any green shrubbery or trees at all that's mostly or completely surrounded by rockslides and big boulders,... glass it out, then glass it out again!! ;-)
