Big Ole' Ruttin Buck

27 inches wide? Mid 180's to 190? Just my guess and I ain't claiming to even know what I'm talking about because I'm the worst at field judging an animal. I would definately Let the wind out of him, given the opportunity! Good buck for sure!
 
Brian, The more i looked at this buck, the smaller he got. I'm gonna say he's not 30", probably 28 1/2 - 29, and he won't yet net 180 typ. Though he has a nice mainframe, doesn't really have the height yet. Would be a smoker buck with one more year on him but would be very tuff for anyone to pass on.

That's a freaking stud! Man those fronts are awesome. Let him grow another year-are you kidding me! Only about 2 places on earth I'd even think of letting him grow another year.
 
I wouldn't even have to think twice.. If I saw him I would shoot. period..

I may live in Cali but i've hunted great properties on good units. I just don't see what you guys do. Yeah, he a real nice young buck but i've gotten better bucks than him and been on hunts where WAY BETTER bucks were taken. You guys shoot him, hell, i sure don't care... He's not on my property. I might shoot him too depending on where i'm at. As i said, it would be a hard one to pass on.

Yukon, maybe 20 years ago, i mighta sparked something up but then, that was twenty years ago... 30", you're older than me, maybe you need glasses?? :)

You can't kill monsters if you take the good ones! The way my body's going, i figure i might not have much left to hunt with.

If you're dead set on a 30" buck, you better let him walk. I'm not seeing even close to 30"......26" is more realistic....awesome typical frame though....with some exceptional main beams. Pretty buck for sure......and yup, I'd be flinging an arrow his way!

If you hit the PAUSE button at 48 seconds into the video you will get an excellent view of this buck.He is an amazing NON -TYPICAL in the making,I will guess 24" - 26" wide and will go approx.170'ish.Just my guess .I would put an arrow through him if given the chance !

Nice buck but this is closer to reality unless his ears are oversized.
 
Here's a buck i took that to me, looks very similar to the buck in the video. He's a 8X6 with a 25" mainframe and cheaters help him out to 28". His G-4's are only 8" but his back forks and cheaters are bigger... mid 170's, needed another year IMO but a last day buck.

Most mature deer will have an ear width of around 24" but there are exceptions. I read a magazine article about a Sonora deer that had 27" wide ears once. I've also read an article about a big mature buck that had 22" ears. fatrooster.
 
Definitely would be a shooter, but have to agree that he lacks the length in the back forks to really score big. Mid 170's to low 180's at best.
 
The more i watch it the more my trigger finger twitches. i would with out a doubt take this buck if i was given the chance.
 
26" wide 180 would be my guess his antlers start to flare out at the top could go 28'
 
Well, i guess i'm outnumbered here about a zillion to one :)
But, let me say a couple things and i'll let you guys back to drooling all over your keyboards watching this video.

i got a nice bunch of bucks like that buck and some nicer ones. I don't have too many hunts left in me i fear and if i'm in a good unit or limited area, i hope i have the time and chance to pass on this buck so i can put my tag on a bigger one. There are lots bigger bucks out there. I've passed on 30" bucks in my day and i've passed on bucks actually bigger than what i've gotten. The reason why is because i've always wanted to kill a monster buck...the kind... a total pig...Mr Big Daddy Wabbit, whatever you want to call him, but that's what i'm looking for in a good area and until the last couple days, that's all i'm going to shoot. I hope! :)

This is a nice young buck, yes, and great to see but to me, he's just "another nice buck" and certainly not what i'm hunting for at this point in my hunting career! Have attem guys!! I'll pass.

Stick to your guns Joey! You don't have to explain anything to anybody.

I tend to agree with you. Yes, this is a great buck and one you would consider in any general area, but he doesn't have a lot of mass that carries all the way out, he is short and his kickers really only add up to deductions. I guess it all depends on the area, the time of the hunt and the expectations you have set for yourself.

That's a dream buck for a lot of guys, i understand that. Then there are also a bunch of guys out there that are looking for that next step or two up. That's where it gets really tuff and on some hunts, has caused me to go home happy but empty.

He is actually 30-32 and about 195. I have his sheds and am the one that videoed him. I actually have about an hour and half of video of him from 30-100 yards. Well i don't know how to post pics but i could send them to someone else if they would be willing to post them.

I'd give him a 25 inch main fraim with no problem, he is decieving though. Good fronts....not so good backs, a couple small kickers but good beam length.......my thoughts are give him another year or two and he could gross at 200 inches, right now i'd give him high 170's. Pretty buck, would be hard to pass up!


Sit tall in the saddle, hold your head up high, keep your eyes fixed to where the trail meets the sky...
 
I would not have guessed him to be that good....30 incher, 195.

I would have said 27-28ish wide, and mid-180's or so. Taker buck in most places I hunt...for me atleast. The front forks and extras are cool.
