Anyone got any neat pics of broke-rack or unusually-formed racks? At first,I thought this guy had a deformed rack...he just broke his rack and injured his ear in a fight!

Hear are a few from last fall. This large 3-point broke a very thick main beam... it must have been a very good looking doe!

Here is another main beam break on a buck with nice brow tines. A break on this size buck is more expected.

The green-grass pic is from this week. It looks to me like the right pedicle is on his forehead!

This is the one I call Freak for obvious reasons. Strangest antlers I've ever seen!

Here's a buck i killed that was broke off across at the fork of the right G-3. I had it repaired similar to other side, he's my widest buck to date at almost 32".

those are some awesom pics, and would be an awesome conversation piece on my wall!!!!

That is cool that you got the pic and the shed, JC. With such weird configurations (and without a picture) it is sometimes tough to visualize how the deformed antler sat on the buck.

Here is a broken one that I filmed last week in Northeast Utah. Not sure why he would have broken off. I can't imagine them fighting while they are growing. If you look close you can see a flap of velvet hanging off the side. Can't decide if I should take either of these guys or try to find their daddy.

NVPete, I am going to try and get some photos of these two bucks I have seen that appear to have some sort of genetic flaw. The bigger of the two is pretty wide with a really good frame on his right side. But on his left side he has a velvet ball of some sort that loosely hangs and sways as he walks. I have never seen anything like it. I saw another buck just like him but smaller within a couple hundred yards both on the same day.

Hey all! Thanks for the posts and especially the neat pics of some pretty unique-looking bucks. I'd never encountered really malformed antlers like some of those bucks have, although I have encountered deer with broke racks, or one antlered deer...I even harvested a 2x0 buck one year, I call him my "half-a-buck" trophy!

I don't know that it is really common, but deer occasionally fall down. I've seen a couple go down on slick hillsides. It may be the cause of some injuries.

JDH,
Brother you might want to check out your areas with a Geiger counter before spending to many more field days out there...lol

Yea I am not sure what the deal is. Downwinders perhaps. LOL. Here is a freak I found the other morning. Looks like his left side didn't fully shed and the new growth overcame it and now he has some of last years stuff, polished antler, and some new velvet stuff. Looks very uncomfortable to me.

Here's one a friend of mine took last year on the Utah archery hunt. Cool rack..almost wish his other side matched.
