2800 Badlands Pack with 2009 buck

I just posted yesterday with my 2009 deer. I wanted to mention the pack out I had with this deer compared to my 2007 deer. I switched packs after the 2007 season because the 2800 had a little more room for gear which I liked. However after having packed out my 2009 deer I would have to say that the 2200 is the better pack for that purpose. With more than one guy, it isn't too crucial to have a big pack, but I just liked how secure the animal felt in my 2200. Both packs do a great job, but I love the meat shelf that the 2200 has and also the deeper main compartment to put the quarters in. I guess the only thing better would have been the 4500 which I had left down at camp.(I knew I would have help if I got one that day!) Which pack do you guys prefer and why?

Dam nice deer I have both packs an don't like either of them much but agree the 2200 is better, I like the old badlands packs. I think it's the old 2200 I still us rather than the two new ones I have, like the big compartment too. Once again great bucks

I have used both packs and love the 2800, but do have to agree with you on packing out with the 2800, it is not the easiest. The 2200 is a lot easier with the meat shelf and huge main compartment. I think somehow badlands needs to incorporate the 2200 meat shelf into the 2800, and put some more straps on the side pockets to make it more user friendly. For just hunting and not packing I like the 2800 over the 2200, but I guess I would rather have the 2200 to haul an animal out with.

cheers

Nice deer by the way!!!!

Dont like either of them-all the compartments seem to be odd shapes and sizes-the little one rides nice but hardly has room for everything.

We always have two of us on the mountain so I have never had to pack out more than half of the animal. With the gear I normally pack and half of the animal it is a pretty full pack. With a little less gear you might be able to get 2/3 of the animal in there. We have always quartered out our deer. I guess if you took the meat right off of the bone you could fit the entire thing. The 4500 would easily carry out the whole animal, but like I said earlier I have yet to try it. Hope this helps answer your question.

I have owned both the 2200 and the newer and older versions of the 2800. My favorite pack for just toting stuff around the woods is the newer 2800. My favorite pack for hauling meat is the older 2800. The 2200 just was not the pack for me. Love my 2800's!

I used the 2200 to pack out my moose two years ago. I'm not sure what the shelf is your talking about. It's one of the most comfortable packs I've ever used. I had enough moose meat in one load to fill a coleman cooler flush to the top. It was heavy as hell but the pack was still comfortable to shoulder. I love the back pad Badland uses too.

I have both I would rather carry my 2800 for regular hunting i just like it better, but I find myself carrying the 2200 because it is so much better for packing Quarters. If they would put two straps on the bottom of the 2800 instead of the one in the middle I think it would make a huge differance. The problem with the one in the middle is you have to put the quarter off to one side making it un-balanced.

The new 2800 has two straps. I have hauled multiple quarters with my old 2800, you just have a "Hoof" sticking out of either side up top.
