great buck, and a very good looking mount. Sounds like your family knows how to have a good time. There is not much that i enjoy more than to spend time with the family up in the mountains(especially hunting). Good luck! Be sure to update us on how you do when you get back!

GOOD LUCK HIGHCOUNTRY....LIKE TO SEE YOUR PICS & HEAR ABOUT YOUR TRIP. MIGHT TRY THE BOOKS IN THE NEAR FUTURE......YD.

Set up camp yesterday (left trailer unattended-sorry Wapiti)as I wont be able to get there until about 10:30 Friday night. I did take the time to drive around some. We saw 25+ bucks 2 were "shooters" IMPO. However, 3 of the bigger bucks that we saw APPEARED to be starting to RUT. One in particular had a very swollen neck. Is this a possiblity on the 14th of October? The lower roads were dry and dusty. Some of the higher roads got some rain yesterday PM and were muddy and slick.

We gotta know what a shooter is in your personal opinion, just so we know what kind of bucks your looking at. Best of luck to ya trix!

They always migrate and start to rut earlier than other places in the Books, but this year they seem really early. I saw a buck that looked rutty yesterday too. Pretty crazy huh? Should be a good hunt this year.

The buck pictured above would be a shooter after a couple days.
The first decent buck I saw yesterday was as wide but taller and heavier. The other was wider and taller and would be hard to pass on anytime. (okay i'll bite, my guess is 29-30")

Seriously? Rutty already? That would be way early for out there. They're usually deep in the rut by Thanksgiving, but not usually this soon.

Can't wait to get out there myself this weekend though. Ahhhh....Bookcliffs therapy.
