Why did Nate Simmons & Eastmans Part

Sorry if this was already discussed but can anyone tell me why Eastmans lost another hardcore hunter and field editor. Maybe I am way off base here but I think the Eastmans were not comfortable with someone not named Eastman being considered a more hardcore DIY hunter than any of the three. Very disappointing. I like South Cox too and I see he is not contributing. Something is really wrong. IMO.

Yep something is going on there in the last few years they have lost Cam Hanes, David Long, Ryan Hatfield, and Nate Simmons. I read on another forum that David and Nate were upset about Eastmans giving away their hunting spots by showing too much scenery and background in their episodes. Not sure if this is true because you would think they would have some say on the editing and what gets shown.

With the departure of those four guys they are really down to just the family for hunting episodes on the TV show, which isn't good. I mentioned the exact same thing as Orion did in his post when this came up on here recently. I liked all the episodes those guys did much more than Mike hunting anteloep or Guy going to some ranch on basically a guided hunt, even though they are fair chase. The DIY way is by far the best IMHO.

Nate is with and writing for the Elk Hunter magazine, but Ryan Hatfield, who also left Eastmans, is actualy the Editor and where the buck stops!

Those guys are good to read about and I just went ahead and subscribed to the new elk magazine mentioned above.

Personally, I think the eastman's magazine has some very useful info. It seems to have more info. in detail than most.

It is going to be difficult to step into a family owned business and stay for a long period if the non-family person is planning on running the show. No matter what the business.

People gain experience and names get bigger and move on to bigger things.

Wow I just realized that they have lost Shawn Simpson, Cameron Haynes, David Long, Ryan Hatfield, Nate Simmons and in a lesser role South Cox. That's 6 guys in less than 6 years. So which one is pushing these guys out. Mike has taken a step back so is it Ike or Guy.

I know someone said that these guys have moved on to bigger and better things and maybe most have but no offense to Extreme Elk Hunter Mag, they haven't been around long enough to be considered a move up yet. But then again the way guys are dropping like flys in the Eastman camp maybe it was a better move. I wish all these guys well. Eastman's loss.

Unless yer name ends in Eastman, doubt the job pays that well. All the hunts those guys did seemed to be DIY hunts where they drew the tags and did all the work themselves. Other than seeing yerself on TV, I don't see the incentive. Might be a different story if you were one of Bill JirDungs toady's who get to hunt over priced ranches all over the country. Did some checking a couple times and seems many of the Eastman boys were applying for or hunting elk in areas 61, 62 or 63. Imagine they never put that info their magazine...

Maybe they just got a better offer somewhere else?Maybe they just wanted to take the next step and move on to something else? Not every story has a conspiracy of some sort behind it.Those guys are all excellent hunters deserving of their own accolades. And Guy does plenty of DIY,also. With the exception of On Your Own Adventures,I think Eastman's has more DIY than any other hunting show.Of course, that may change with all these guys gone.Still a good show,IMO.

The main reason I subscribed to Eastman's was because of Cameron Hanes, David Long and Nate Simmons. After reading their books (Cam and David) I wanted to learn more from them. Their contribution to the magazine was considered the majority of the core criteria that I was interested in. The magazine is not the same without them and I will probably be shopping around once my subscription ends.

I don't think there is any other quality so essential to success of any kind as the quality of perseverance. It overcomes
almost everything, even nature.

>I think Shon Simpson took a

>is now?

Shon did take a fall while on site with his contruction company that left him paralized. Last I talked to him he was doing well and life goes on. He was restricted to a wheel chair but is still able to get around and seemed to have a pretty positive attitude.
There's a reason he was a very succesful backcountry hunter, and I am sure that will carry over to other things in life as well.

You could probably just e-mail him and ask. I had a question for him about a hunt he filmed a few years ago and he replied in a day or so.

Since I didn't start hunting out west until a few years ago, I like the magazine since it's geared for a DIY hunter in my shoes. The learning curve has been steep and appreciate any help I can get.

I understand why you guys would get frustrated with the Eastman's Mag for writing about the areas you've worked hard to learn and scout.
