Getting excited for my wife's first deer hunt. She drew the Bookcliffs. Just wondering which side to hunt. We saw alot of decent bucks thru the summer, but I know they won't be on top for the rifle hunt. For any of you that have hunted it on the rifle hunt would you concentrate on the Ouray side or the Greenriver side? Any help would be appriciated, thanks.

Either side if the deer are bailing into the rutting grounds drove from seep to atchee ridge and there are deer both places nothing on top so don't waste your time they are gone.
pm me if you want anymore info

tstewy what kind of bucks did you see on your drive? I don't have a tag (had one last year), I was just curious about the quality of the bucks. Do you think it is the same as past years or a little better?

I hunted both sides last year, it seems there were more deer towards Ouray but A lot more pressure. The Green river side had fewer deer but fewer hunters as well. Flip a coin and good luck. BH1

LAST EDITED ON Oct-12-09 AT 11:48PM (MST)[p]I've hunted out there a few times too. But only on top, and off the South side. I finally drew my tag this year, and am considering the North side. But I know nothing about it! Does the pressure fall off after the first few days? Which side has the bigger bucks in your opinions? I'll be there for the duration if needed!
Thanks!

There are alot of big buck out there this year i went down and helped a couple of guys i met on mm during the bow hunt and we chased some good bucks. i would def hunt the green river side by rainbow and Watson and big park id even check out park canyon and rabbit next to 21 the deer are still moving around and are not all the way down yet. But we saw 1 buck around 180 by rat hole in the middle of the day shotter for sure . I think the later the hunt the better it gets because it is a migration hunt. so the second weekend imo is better. pray for some more weather on wend.
