What do you guys think is the best part of a storm to hunt? In the past I've gone out in the worst weather just to come up empty handed and not see much. Now the moment the storm breaks (rain or snow) is a whole different story, seems the deer bed down and try to stay out of it, but as soon as it passes or there is a break they come out to feed and dry off........What say you??????

We are having a hell of a storm here in Ca at the moment and I think I'm gonna hold off untill the worst of it passes or at least try to be on the mountain the minute it lightens up.

Hardway, with the weather we are getting up here I bet they are holed up in some thick stuff and not moving until the wind dies down..They say there is gusts of 65 mph here where I live and up higher on the crest is 140 mph gusts...After this storm passes I believe there will be a lot of deer out feeding....

I have hunted the Missouri Breaks straight through a heavy snow storm one time. Seen several out before, during the storm a few did move around feeding in some wind sheltered cuts. However as the storm tapered of the next morning movement was better for about the hour after first lite. Made glassing a real pain in the middle but was able to look for "steam" in some real thick stuff and learn a few bedding areas I was unaware of.

I agree with what you said yourself hardway. Right after the storm i have seen the most movement of animals. I dont know how accurate my theory is but i have always assumed they come out to feed and stretch their legs after bedding up from the storm so long. :) Right after the storm is best

I like during and after, I do what the deer do, stick to the thick stuff and still hunt inside it, storms bad enough even when you bump one they don't go far, moment it let's up I sit high and glass till I find a good deer

I think just after is best, BUT I will say that if you can get into bedding areas during a bad storm, you can sneak in on them a lot more unnoticed. We did that 2 years ago on the Muzz Deer in Utah, it snowed 6 inches and we were out in it. We got right into their bedroom and they didn't have a clue that we were there...
