A buddy of mine nailed a nice 4x4 this last weekend. I missed one on the opener and blew a stalk on day 2. I'll try again in a couple of weeks. Also, captured a hog blacktail on film but the pics are a little blurry since I didn't have a tripod and the distance was about 200 yds...wasn't stalkable since the wind was not in my favor and he was moseying off so I filmed instead.

The "A" Zone archery hunt started this past Sat., Zone "B4" opens on the 27th for bow. Only a couple of Blacktail archery hunts are going on right now, the rest of the state opes in the middle of Aug.

Nice blacktails, both are trophy bucks, tell your buddy congrats on the buck, and please keep the pics. coming.

Both are great bucks, congrats. I bet it is hot, sweaty and loaded with flys right now. Did your buddies deer have millions of ticks on it???? I remember shooting one around Vacaville 8 years ago that had tons of ticks on it, it was hot outside.......

Only 1 tick on the ear...they must have been licking the medicated salt blocks put out for the cattle.

them A-zone bucks sure are advanced in horn growth, here in C- zone we still have 3 weeks of horn growth left, most of the bucks I've seen still have a ways to go before there done.

wonder what the diff. is, I also noticed that they shed sooner also.

Manny> I don't know what the difference is but I passed up on a pink horned forky that had just rubbed off most of its velvet--funny lookin thing The other bucks I saw over the weekend were still in full velvet.

Midbrook,
Did you take the bucks on private or public land? I moved to Marin county last year from AZ to attend dental school. I am an avid bowhunter and really want to hunt blacktail but it seems like it's all private land out here. Can you help? I'm willing to help with AZ info.

Hey bubbas

Send me an email and I can give you a few places to give a try.

bubbas>>sorry for the delay but I haven't been logged in for a while. I don't know a whole lot about hunting public lands A zone. That buck was taken on a friend's private property many miles from any public lands and he allows very, very few people to hunt it. Lots of fella's do alright from what I hear in the cache creek areas and also the southern Mendocino NF that's in the A-zone. Either plae wouldn't be too far of a trek for you.
