Any opinions about the NV guide draw, where
you contract with a guide, and go through a seperate
drawing.

Am consider doing it next year and would love
any input.

Larry,
I don't know if I am the best one to answer you, but the odds are a touch better in the guide draw. The only holdback in my eyes is the guide draw is for rifle only.

Larry, I did it two years ago. I've always wanted to hunt back up in the Ruby Mountains. It's a Wilderness Area where no motorized vehicles are allowed. So I put in with a guide who knew the area and provided horses and a nice camp. It was my first horseback hunt and a great experience. I never knew such beautiful places existed in Nevada.

It does also increase your odds of getting a tag but that was not the primary reason for me. I already had enough bonus points to draw the tag.

If you do a little research and pick a good guide, it's a great deal IMO.

Thanks Gentlemen,

The fellow I'm going to put in with is quite a bit
older than me, and rifle would be the only consideration
for him.

We will have 7 points coming out of this draw. So that with
the fact that they won't let you put in for the regular draw
now, hopefully will help.

I truly appreciate your input. I've never set foot in
Nevada, and this whole thing scares the hell out of a
central Texas country boy.

I'll get over it. Hopefully with a big grin on my face.

Eel, behave yourself, as best you can. I know it's hhhaarrdd.

Hey Larry,
I operate an outfitter service in central part of Nevada. If you are still considering an outfitted hunt, I would happy to help you with the guide draw application process.
Talk to you later.

Hey racksandtracks, do you know anything about unit 16? I drew the early rifle tag there this year.

Thanks

Hey NMHUNTNUTT1,
We are loacated in the central part of the state in the small community of Round Mtn.

Hey oakbrush,
There are large portions of 16 that have roads. 16 also has the Alta Toquima and the Table Mtn. wildernesses in it. Both are walk or horse access only. A LOT less people in the wilderness.
Talk to you later, racksandtracks

Tonopah is really fixing up the town. They even have Burger King now. What part of NM are you in.

racksandtracks,
I live in Rio Rancho. Its a newer area just northwest of Albuquerque . When I left , Tonopah had just gotten it's first McDonalds. How long have you been there? I lived there from 85-91 and for a short time in 93. I used to live acrosss the street from the General Store before everything moved to Hadley.Reason I had asked about Jim's outfit was because I used to go with him and my dad on cat hunts , got my first hounds from him and Red...Now I'm planning on 161 in 2008 archery deer...Are you related to the Bergs?

The reason I asked is that I spent 3 years in SW New Mexico guiding hunters. Around Reserve and Datil. I have been in Rnd. Mtn. since 98. I grew up in Reese river valley. My family had a ranch there. No I'm not related to the Bergs. I have a sub-guide that is a Berg. I have known Jim and Red for a lot of years. I used to sub for them. Played town team B-ball against Jim in the mid to late 80's before he ever had a guide service. He is a lot of fun to hunt with. He has a good outfit.
