My 2009 Muzzleloader Buck

Here is my 2009 muzzleloader muley. Not the biggest deer out there but we were having a tough time finding good bucks this year. Passed on one with deeper forks last friday but less mass and no extras. The buck I was originally after ended up breaking off a pretty major point at the end of September so I have been leaving him alone. Should of had him opening day of the archery season but that is another story. My dad just about had a crack at this guy on October 2nd. He has a beautiful cape on him. I don't think I am going to do a shoulder mount but my buddy is a taxidermist so will put the cape to good use. I haven't put a tape to him yet, I will try and do that sometime tomorrow. He has great mass but is a little weak in the back forks. We just have to find a buck for dad now.

Dandy buck to "settle for" to say the least. I love your photography, it is always outstanding and of some fascinating country for sure. Thanks for sharing your success with the rest of us, I know you spend a ton of time out in the field each year so it was no doubt well-earned.

WOW! Well done. This is an awesome deer!...You are an idiot!!! You said you ar not going to mount this deer.??? Don't worry too much over score, it is an awesome animal with lots of character. Preserve that!

my 2 cents

Score never matters to me. I like character before score. I will get a european mount of him, just not a full shoulder mount.

Another damn fine buck Saskman. I was expecting something smaller with the way your story portrayed it.

If quizzes are quizzical, what are tests?

I'm sorry for your loss. I just hate it when you have to kill inferior Bucks on those "down years". maybe next year you'll have a chance to kill a good one

We have become spoiled up here the last few years with lots of big bucks roaming the hills. Things are starting to come back to reality with the obscene numbers of tags that have been given out in large parts of the province the last few years and the unlimited free tags in CWD areas. The numbers or really big deer from Saskatchewan will be down drastically over the next while. I have heard of a couple whoppers taken this year though.

Way to go Cam.....very cool buck with dark antlers and good main beam length. Of course, OUTSTANDING field photos we've become familiar with over the years. Congratulations.

Yeah... I'd be disappointed with a 180" buck that weighed 240+ pounds too... :)

Seriously, if you don't think that deer is a brute of a trophy... You must be livin in heaven my friend... Congrats on a fine deer!!!

Not disappointed, I think he looks great otherwise I would not have shot. Love his mass and overall look. Just not as big as some of the bucks that have been coming out of these areas in the recent past.

Some numbers on the buck. Longest MB is 26 7/8. Longest G2 is 14 6/8. Longest G3 is 10 1/8. Longest G4 is 10 3/8. His mass measurements average over 5 inches and his inside spread is 25 2/8 ( didn't measure his outside). He has a total gross score of 189 1/8 including non-typical points (nets are for fish). I think his gross typical frame was 182 and change.

Another great buck, Cam. Big-time congrats. I love the country you hunt and the bucks you are able to chase. I hope that big guy that broke an antler hangs around and you stick an arrow in his ribs next year so we can see a picture.

If you have a story and are not putting it in a magazine, I'd sure like to hear/read it.

Hey Saskman, if you ever need someone to help you take care of some of these "smaller bucks" so that you can get to the bigger ones, just give me a call......

Cam,
Congrats on yet another Monster Muley! I love the look of that bad boy. Should look sweet as a Euro.
