Well as many of you know the nebo unit is closed, the area me and my brother planned to hunt. So instead of hunting the other open central units me and my brother decided to head down south with my little sister and dad. Note this was my little sisters first year hunting.
My sister's first buck. 500 yard shoot with the 300 mag. finished this buck .

This is my dad's buck. 5x4, 25" wide. His biggest buck to date.

Any guesses on what my dad's buck would score? is he a mounter?

This is a picture with my brother jordan, my dad "the killer", and me, i like to call myself the guide. This was the most exciting hunt i've been on, to finally flip the story around and take my dad up hunting and see him shot the biggest buck in his life was THE most exciting feeling ever. and while me and my brother were caping out my dad's deer, my dad and megan went over the ridge to look for a buck for her and not even twenty minutes later my sister shots an awesome awesome first buck and amazing shot.

This is a buck i killed in 07. This buck is from the same region and was shot less than 500 yards from my dad's and sister's buck. Shot off the same cliff. It was one hell of a climb, sister thought she was gonna die but said it was all worth it.

This is a buck that me and my brother found this morning while hunting with my hunting buddy justin and his brother in-law jared. He borrowed the 300 mag. and tipped him over with one shot to the pumper. We were able to get the shot on video which was awesome. This was his second buck and was very excited.
Well something is wrong with the picture i wasn't able to load it on here but i'll try later. He was about a 16" 2x3.

Wow, great post! Awesome bucks, I would say your dad's buck scores around 160-165 gross and 155 net. Too bad there's no matching cheater or he'd net a lot better. Whether or not to do a shoulder mount is up to you guys, but my first mounter was a lot smaller than that. If you saved the cape then I'd do a mount for sure. If not, or if space and $ are tight, european mounts look pretty good.

If its his biggest ever I'd go ahead and do the shoulder mount, maybe even a wall pedestal to hide the bullet hole.

Very cool story. Heck yeah!, Mount that buck if it makes you happy. He's a great looking buck. fatrooster.

Any good buck like that is a mounter. You cant have too many good deer on the wall. Who knows when your next chance may come. Congrats to you guys.

Is that ethical?

LAST EDITED ON Oct-20-09 AT 12:10PM (MST)[p]The young girl shot that buck with a 300 mag at 500 yards??? Holy crap! congratulations

I don't know what the deer would score and to be honest with you I'm not really into the whole score thing, but that is me and not everone feels that way. As far as mounting it, I believe that is always up to the hunter and whether or not they feel it's a trophy in their mind. I don't always mount a deer because of the size sometimes I mount a animal because of the hunt and the memories that go along with that hunt. There are all different types of trophies and in my opinion size is not always a factor. Either way those are some very nice deer you and your family took, you should be proud and excited you earned it.

I have a plaque mount of my first blacktail buck that I took with a bow and well let me tell you I did not mount it because it was huge but because I was very proud of that deer and the work I put into it. If I have the money I will mount my sons first deer regardless of the size.

Congrats on some nice deer,

Slide

hey thanks for your comments guys, it's exciting to see what you have to say. We took my dad's buck to the taxidermist and my sisters to get a european mount. SLIDE i agree with you on the size issue, it's fun to measure but i think it's about the memory and this is one of, if not the most exciting hunts i have ever been on. thanks for the comments and good luck to everyone on there hunts. i'm headed out tomorrow morning for me and my brothers hunt, hopefully we both don't get out done by our sister.
