Well I didn't get to do much huntin this year, but my old man had a couple ok tags. So I got to guide him for a change. It's a good thing because he's gettin worse to take care of than one of my kids. Maybe it's gettin even time for some of the dumb things I done.
Any ways first up was his muzzeloader buck hunt. We done Quite a bit of scouting and seen some nice bucks but the bigger bucks we found(2) were on private with no real good way to get to them. So we had to start from scratch when the hunt started. We hunted hard for five days and he cramped up and shot this buck that we had seen before and past on. He was with another buck that had about a 23" frame and two matching 3" kickers on both sides with another small inline making him a 6x7 but his frame was really lacking. I could barely keep him from shooting it. I finally talked him into thinking that this was the better buck. Anyways it was a fun hunt to see alot of nice bucks we had several 165-170 class deer that we had named and seen almost daily. Almost forgot to mention that we got back to camp one afternoon and I decided he had better shoot his gun. Well to make a long story short(too late) We had been hunting with a gun that didn't work for 5 days. Something was screwed up in the bolt and it wouldn't fire. We made a quick trip to town and he bought a new one. A half box of powerbelts later and we were back on the road.
I'll stop babling now here are some pics,. He ending up scoring 183" didn't look it to me but I was pleasantly surprised.

Next was his elk hunt. I'll keep this one short. It was a later hunt and all the bigger bulls had already left the cows and were by themselves or with just another bull or two which made it pretty tuff. I spotted two bulls bedded together from about two miles away so we hiked in to get a better look. they ended up being about a 310 bull and a 270 bull or so. Anyhow we turned around and started to hike out and turn around just in time to see a glipse of a bull. So we decided to hike back to the top and see what he was. Once on the top My old man thought it would be a good idea for me to stay put and make sure the bull didn't sneek out the bottom while he snuk (is that a word.) Down the ridge to see if he could see him. I argued if he just stayed were I was he would come right out below us and we could get a good look at him and decide if he was a shooter. I knew in the back of my mind that if I let him go down there by himself that he was going to kill something. Sure enough he walked down 100 yards below me and I seen him throw up his gun. I thought ohh great hes goin to shoot a dink and were gonna have to pack him out of here. Needless to say I was again pleasantly surprised when I got down to him. He is a really old bull with hardly any teeth or ivories left. He ended up scoring right at 330. I guess I'll have to give him credit, He still kind of knows what he's doing and can get it done.

Big congrats to your DAD!!! Great buck and elk especially for him and for you to get to help him. I'm getting older too, maybe you could help me. LOL

Great buck and bull! Amazing how light colored that bull's antlers are. The old guy might be hard to take care of but looks like he can still get er done.

Wes Looks like you guys had a good year I can just here the bs stories at the coffee shop right now over these. You know that coffee shop bs can get pritty deep. nicely done

I wouldn't have guessed that buck at nearly 180"... He's good lookin though. Was that a general unit buck, or was it a draw, or private... I don't care where per se, just wondering...

Ya I'm pretty sure that there were some pretty good stories at the coffee shop striker. I didn't think the buck would score that good either thats why I made him pass him the first time we saw him. Not that it matters but here are the measurements. I didn't give him any leeway this time so the rough 183 was pretty close.

Man, I would pissed off if I shot those animals too:). Why is it that hardly anybody smiles in hunting pictures anymore? I don't get it, I would have a crap eatin' grin from ear to ear! Those are great animals and not too many people accomplish that in one season.
