SMELLYBUCK

Guest
Went out on the Monroe unit opening morning. Plenty of people out. I went to a spot where I had seen a heavy deer earlier this year. There was nothing there opening morning & I went up higher and managed to shoot a decent 3-point, meat buck.

When I hauled him out, I passed through the area where I saw that bigger buck earlier in the year and smelled something off. I looked around a bit and found some old blood and a decayed gut pile. Just the green innards were left. It was certainly older than a day, but recent enough that the blood was still visible. Clearly shot before the opener. I was afraid that would happen with the screwy dates and lack of signs. Looks like someone had a great hunt with little pressure.

somebody in the division or wildlife board thought it would be fun to have two opening mornings and forgot each unit would get pounded twice as hard on their separate opening day. They also forgot that Utards cant or don't want to read their proclamation.

Archery is a year round commitment!!

My wife has a tag in the Central region and we hunted one of the 5 day areas. We have hunted this are several times in the past and I couldn't beleive how many poeple were here this year. I talked to several poeple who normal hunt other areas that came to the 5 day area to hunt just to get a second opening day. I saw more bucks get killed this year than in the past so having a five day hunt with a latter opeing date did not help with the buck to doe ratios.

I had a totally different experience.
We hunted a 5 day area on the opening day, Wednesday. We saw a number of bucks, and did not see another hunter.

I think staggering the hunt dates like they did was the stupidest thing I have ever seen! All it managed to accomplish was to give people two openers. The area I went to was hit just as hard on wed as it would have on Sat. Dumb dumb idea! I hope they get rid of it. I agree they should have done something but not that. They should have opened the units on the normal dates just shut it down early. Duh!
